That sucks, hope they get it figured out as they are the future of this sport.

I would have to imagine someone would buy them instead of letting the technology they’ve developed wither away. KTM maybe?

I wish luck to all of those employees, and hope they get back to work soon.

Sucks! I hope somebody steps up, buys them and keeps the employees.
Not matter what, they showed what's possible and pushed the big five to look into electric dirt bikes. Can't be long before the first japanese e-mx bike comes into production.

It's likely whoever buys the company won't have the same passion that original owners and staff did. Disappointing news.

Bad news, but I am not surprised. The technology and cost just isn't there yet. Until an electric bike can run longer than the rider is able to last, and cost the same as a gas bike, they just won't be bought in volume. It will happen though one day in the future.

That sucks. I'm sure some company will come through and put the budget out there. The bikes have come too far for all companies to simply ignore.

How does this even happen? Bikes were selling and dealerships kept opening. wow. talk about being shocked. Such a bummer because 2020 was gonna be my year to make the switch.

You probably answered your own question there with 2020 was your year to switch. To make a profit a company needs people to buy now, not in two years time

Damn, that seems like it came out of nowhere. I felt like I was constantly hearing about these bikes, seeing people on here that bought them, etc and now they're belly up? Man, that's a huge bummer Sad

The bikes weren’t selling. That’s the problem. I ride almost every weekend and at a lot of different tracks .... I’ve yet to see one.

Man, this legitimately sucks. Like when Cannondales motorsports division went belly up I 100% understood it because their bikes and quads were piles of garbage. These guys put out a solid, competitive motorcycle that opened up the possibilities for more places to ride. I'm in the process of buying a house and there is enough land for a small practice track and the only way that would ever be possible due to neighbors and noise ordinance is if I bought an electric bike which was my goal within the next few years. Horrible horrible news............fuck. Who could possibly buy them up? Might be a far stretch but would a company like Tesla be a possibility? If I'm reading that article correctly, did they get the screws put to them by Harley?

That is some crappy news and quite honestly a big shock as they have been doing a lot of marketing as of late.

Is this news story legit?

Never understood this point of view. Too many people out there unwilling to give up their IC powered motorcycles for an e-bike to be considered the future of the sport. Cool bikes, neat tech, but a bit soulless for a sport that revolves around gear heads. All the idiots ( and there were/ are many)who proclaimed the 2 stroke dead in MX have been forced to face the reality that the sport was floundering in the 4 stroke era. If we aren't willing to give up on the 2 stroke, even less people will be willing to give up gasoline altogether.

I'd still like the option of an Alta to terrorize the neighborhood on. Stealth does have its benefits.

What are the odds of KTM Group sweeping in and taking over Alta?

I think it would be a smart move and they have already a relationship with Alta through WP. Unless KTM already has a big E-bike program that they are working on.

i ride both 2 and 4t love them both for their respective strengths..

ive ridden a high end e mtb and loved it...

you dont have to give up 1 to use another, not sure where youre coming from..

im a qual mech
im also auto elec qualified and dabbled in electronics.

im looking forward to the new tech...

so this anoucement is a bid dissapointment to me..

seeing a new brand emerge and coming from a country that SHOULD be making dirtbikes was great..

What was the actual production run so far? Just 2 years right? Not really long enough to set up a dealer network and turn a profit. Maybe rent in the Bay area was too high...

Had a feeling that was going to happen when harley put their hands on it. Went in, learned the technology, left, let alta go out of business, open their own factory. I called it months ago.

Durham probably has a bike in his hands and has some guys that would crew for him and I bet that guy from redbull would throw in some extra money to make sure he shows up.

Nice job Harley Davidson! Just like Buell, you've destroyed yet another promising American motorcycle brand.

Rule of thumb if you start a motorcycle mfg company. Stay away from HD.

Not shocking. Operating in one of the worst states to own a business in, breaking into a market that has deep roots in completely different technology, offering an inferior product to what the market currently produces. What could go wrong?

Looking forward, one of the OEM’s will scoop this up.

They should sell direct and skip dealers to bring the price down. I would buy one if it wasnt so stupid expensive
