This one bugs me a bit. I understand having a dream and all, but SX is way harder than people give it credit for. Its an insult to the sport and potentially dangerous to the other riders. Is it really this easy to get a Pro AMA SX licence?

The dude is insanely talented on two wheels. I would not be surprised if he makes a night show.

Unless he already has a pro license, he's not even lining up for practice.

talent on 2 wheels is talent on 2 wheels. I do feel like it usually works better the other way around though....moto guys catch on to mtb better/faster than mtb guys catch onto moto. While alot of it is transferable its a lot easier to go from wrestling 230lbs to 30lbs than it is 30 to 230. It worked out good for Aaron gwin anyway..

This is actually an interesting experiment. The guy clearly has the feel and timing down. I'm sure he's technical enough to sort out of the whoops. If he can learn proper riding technique and how to carry a decent amount of speed in the corners, I don't see why he couldn't make a night show. Getting through the rhythms and whoops are what separate the privateer dudes, not corner speed.

I always thought they (AMA)(FELD)(FIM) should have a Standard SX track, Have the top 10 450 and 250 guy's compete and make lap times.

Then develop a percentage over that average time that has to be met more than once maybe lets say twice in a session and one other time.

Then decide if the rider is skilled enough to advance and be allowed on the track with qualified riders.

Saw this young man race with us a couple days ago. He started after everyone because he loaned his boots to another rider(?). He was buckling them up on the line when the flag waved, slipped his goggle on and took off. He was a minute down and ended up second. He putted around as a little kid on bikes and dabbles now 2-3 times a year on a dirt bike. He was on his uncles borrowed YZ250 smoker. So this bike is not set up for him and was bogging a little off the bottom. I have no doubt he would absolutely blaze if he switched to moto. He was super smooth, especially on a slimy and rough Glen Helen GP track. I don't see why Kerr wouldn't have a legitimate shot at a night show.

Bernard Kerr is a great talent at what he does but he shouldn’t be allowed to compete.

He has never even entered a motorcycle race of any type. A1 is not the place to start.

Why would he not be on his KX450 if this was a couple days ago?

I think the intention is cool, but it does make a mockery of the sport that he can get a licence and show up to ride C practice at A1. Meanwhile kids with low national numbers (Masterpool for example) have to go through SX Futures (as per DMXS this week with Wil Hahn).

Can Justin Brayton just show up at a UCI MTB World Cup and try to qualify? Right, didn't think so....

For a lot more on this, Swap also did a podcast with Kerr this week:

Don't get me wrong, the guy is talented on 2 wheels and if given enough time and some proper racing, he could probably succeed in moto too, but I still think it is Mickey Mouse that he can somehow get a licence from the ACU and do some WADA paperwork and show up at A1. I blame the Brits.

I find it’s the opposite. Tons of MTB guys I know are now riding. One of my buddies picked up a DRZ two seasons ago and first week of riding I could not shake him in the woods. He is now beating everyone in the plus 40 Expert class for hare scramble.

And at least one poster who is far too confident in his ability to pivot from DH mountain biking to Supercross

Hell, even if he were trying to qualify for and outdoor I think he'd have a very small chance. But SX, absolutely no chance.

Someone should ask Gwin how he would feel about Dungey racing a World Cup after a month of practice. Although I think Dungey would be humble enough not to even try.

Lots of MX guys train year round on mountain bikes, how many mountain guys ride MX year round? I bet the transition from MX to DH would be easier if for only that reason

Except that guys like Roczen, Tomac, etc. ride XC and not DH. But I still mostly agree with you

Looks like he will do better than that Ford guy that tried the last couple of years on the 2 stroke.

He has a complete lack of respect for the sport, is not humble, and does not appear to be taking it seriously. If he was humble and had respect, this whole charade wouldn't have ever started.

In the words of DV

Wake up Supercross
Eat Supercross
Shit Supercross
Fuck Supercross
Sleep Supercross
