Hoping someone might have a recommendation for boots for someone with bigger calves that will give good support in ankle area. I don't have a lot of stability in my right ankle and foot. Older vet rider who wears a 13-14. Thanks for any opinions.

Do a search. That topic seems to come up quite a bit. From what I remember a lot of people say Gaerne boots.

x2 for Gaerne. I have really short legs with bigger calves and when you factory in my knee braces basically go 4 inches into my boot, the Gaerne's have plenty of room.

That being said...most boots should accommodate a bigger calf because most are taking into consideration knee braces. I'd try some on...which I know is a problem for some. If you're gonna drop the cash on a good boot, best know that if fits properly.

I have bigger calves and the Gaerne work great. Very durable and great fit.
200+ hours of single track woods riding on my SG12s and still holding up very well.
SG10 also worked great for me.
SG12 offers an add'l adjustment to allow for even more calf room.

Ive had Fox Comp 5s. Ive tried on a pair of Tech 7s. I currently have SG12s. All fit my big calves very well. I did try on a pair of Tech 10s and all I can say is forget about it, even with the buckles adjusted all the way out they were still no where close to fitting.

I never skip leg day bro, and my calves still resemble a set of chop sticks. So screw you, big calve bros!

Measure your calf 15" above the floor. If you are 17" or less in circumference, just about anything will work. Above 17" it starts to narrow down, but the Gaerne SG-10 and SG-12 have adjustable shin plates that will accommodate up to about 19". Above that gets tricky, you may have to run a knee guard that does not insert into the boot.

AFA ankle support, you want a boot with a slimmer ankle and thick memory foam in the that area. Generally, the higher end models do a better job at this.

Also, some brands have moved production to the far east, and I feel those models have a tendency to break down and pack out quickly so the boot gets sloppy. Very comfortable but much less supportive over time. That would be the Tech 7 and that three letter brand.

You're gonna get lotsssss of advice here, but you can call me and I will help with sizing if you want. PM if so.

Gaerne SG-12's for sure, I've had SG-10's and the SG-12's have even more room for your calves

I'm in my second pair of Gaerne SG12s. Best fitting boot for big legs period.

You probably have resolved problem and purchased some suitable boots. However, I cannot recommend forma predator boots enough. I have 20" calves and was getting tired of having to borrow boots and duck tape them to me as boot was bout an inch from closing. These are just perfect. Space to spare Smile

I heart a size 13 and have bigger than normal calves. My Garne SG-12 fit perfect even with knee braces.

I'm at 19.5" and I haven't found any and Formas seem to be hard to find/discontinued in the States.
