I was finally able to kneel down enough to take a couple pictures of the brake line today

At the very least, everyone reading this thread that has a KTM should check this area on their bike.

Is it just me or does it seem like theit has been quite a bit of other people complaining about random issues here and there on their 2017-2018 KTM? Someone earlier just noted their fuel pump went out.

It's not just you. KTM have more issues than any of them.

Check it on any bike.

Pre ride and pre race bike checks are critical for spotting items just like this one.

Terrible that the OP has been injured as a result.

I bought a new 2018 KTM 250sx-f from a dealer when it first came in a few weeks ago. I put my name on the list waiting for it to come in and was the first to get one from my dealer. I have about 5 hours on it. I literally haven’t even tipped the bike over or any sort of crash at all before this. I was racing coming down a fast section of the track on the inside of someone trying to make a pass. He came over on me trying to shut the door coming into the next turn. No problem, just hit the brake right? I went to hit my back brake to check up a little and there was no brake, it didn’t work. I clipped his back wheel and went flying off the bike. I broke the L4 vertebrae in my back a bunch of hematomas, torn muscles etc. spent 3 nights in the hospital for internal bleeding and am now on my third week of missed work. Come to find out the problem with the brake was whoever assembled the bike put the brake line in the ring spot and it was touching my exhaust. Which obviously eventually burnt a hole through it. Couldn’t have happened at a worse time.

Ok so after that long story I guess what I’m wondering is:
Who assemblies that part of the bike is it KTM or my local dealer?
Has anyone else had this issue?
Do you think there is any chance they will do anything for me? At least give me the new parts to fix what was broken in the crash, maybe more.
Is it even worth looking into further?
What should my next steps be?

I also wanted to post this so other people can be on the lookout for this and hopefully avoid what happened to me. Thanks
I feel for you man... I had my throttle stick wfo on the face of a jump and broke my t-12 vertebrae and some other serious bruising. .My hip was so bruised I thought I broke my femur. Bike was a 2013 KTM 150sx. I'm at 10 weeks now and still have a lot of back pain. Hope you heal up quickly, and KTM pays for your injury !!!

The detail in the design, jap bikes with the little ears ensuring the banjo bolt directs the hose, its things like that why I will never buy Euro again. You notice if you work on them yourself! Dam I wish Honda still made 2 strokes! But I guess they're working on electric.

Where did you buy this bike? Isn't the dealer supposed to go through the bike to check for exactly these kind of things? I thought that's what the fee is for to make the bike ready .

I checked the brake line on my 2017 KTM 450. There was probably 2-3 cm between the pipe and the brake line. Keep in mind that i have a HGS exhaust, i don't know how it looks with the stock pipe.

You may want to get some legal advice on that one. When you're an older man and can't work for back pain, you'll probably wish you...

I have legal advice for you. If you cant afford to miss work, you shouldnt be racing motocross....

So you think for anyone racing motocross that work is just optional, they enjoying working and don’t have to?
