2018...unless you are a pro rider...that 2018 won’t hold you back at all. Especially if you put $3k back into it to make it the same price as the 20...

Primary changes are mid generation update to the engine, more flex added to chassis in select components -- wheel spacers, clamps, frame.

Other changes were stiffer seat foam, new suspension settings, better air filter retainer, smaller rear brake

All these small changes must have really added up, because the bike really climbed in riders assessment, despite being the same basic model.

Note: most all the updates, excepting the engine stuff bolt right on to the '18

2021 will likely be more/less the same if Yami stays on 4 year cycle

2018 and get the suspension set up by a professional. You're a vet rider getting back into it, the bikes not gonna hold you back one bit.

2020. You’ll get hosed on the resale for the 2018 and you’ll have spent about the same amount of money on both bikes.

Also, if you’re under 190 pounds, the YZ250F.

Whenever you can't decide on something, split the difference. See if you can find a 2019 for $8,000. GrinningSilly

im 210 Vet A/B rider and love my yz250f.. but i did some motor mods... 350 is the best engine displacement IMO.. if my wife let me buy a new bike(cash) id be on a KTM 350..but we are more worried about family goals than just my wants..

I paid cash for my current bikes, but have financed in the past. I have seen bikes offered at 0% financing for two years.....It would be silly not to take advantage of that if the $8K hit is too much at one time. If people did not finance "toys" the whole industry would be dead....Financing at 14% interest is not smart...but financing at 3% over a short term loan is not that "bad" of a decision.

If you borrow $7,000 for a bike at 3% interest and take a 3 year loan. You would be paying $328.46 in interest over the full term of the loan. your payment would be a shade over $200/month...A lot easier to swallow than a $7k hit for a lot of people.

Holy shit, he didn’t even mention financing 🤦🏻‍♂️ I guess he probably need riding lessons too. Most likely needs that ECU re-mapped, of course. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No one earth has any business on a 450 apart from a small handful of factory riders according to vital, so maybe get a TTR225 if you are really into yamahas

I did the 350 thing for a couple years, and I just didn't dig it as much as I was hoping. I wish I'd ridden a 250f to compare it to, but I ended up going back to a 450. Missed lazy lugging and low end of 450, and for me to go fast on a 350 I had to really rev it. I just wasn't in good enough shape to ride the 350 fast for more than a few laps lol. Also, I had the 350 with the horrible 4cs, so that made it 10x worse.

2018 all day. I own one, great bike. Won’t hold you back. I guarantee you’d take less hit on resale at that price vs $9300 (if you worry about resale?). That’s a very big price difference for the claimed amount of improvement.

As for resale, I put myself in a used buyers shoes also. Say you take a $1700 hit on either (I don’t see any 2018’s cheaper than 5k here in OH currently). Would you rather buy a used bike for $5K or $7,600.

As a guy who owns a 2019 yz450f, I would go with the '18 and $2k worth suspension set up for you

if you really have a feel for racecraft sensitivity in the first 12 months of riding again,it will probably bother you to have a 2 year old bike. the question is, how long have you been away from riding. because a 2018-20 450 of any brand is worlds better than say 2014?

I haven’t been on blue bikes in many years, but I thought their big deal was the out of the box great suspension? Does it really need another 2k valving/upgrades?

No, suspension is amazing. When you ride it for 20 plus hours and want it redone then you can decide what you want to do.

Probably not. He didn't list his weight, choice of track/trail, riding ability, etc. I didn't touch mine and I'm 40+, 210lb, but my point is with the savings he "could" get better suspension for him. I rode mostly Honda for 20+ years and this is my 2nd yz450f and the suspension is amazing for me - tracks only, etc
