CP377 retires from racing

Well, today is the day, I am pleased to announce my retirement from racing. It’s all I’ve ever known, but I have been so blessed and fortunate to race all around the world in front of many fans and to work with many great companies. From racing GP’s, winning a world championship, then coming to America, two super cross championships, winning races... and now finding a new life here in the states, racing has given me so much. Those good times don’t come without tough times, from my paralyzing accident in 2007, internal injuries, countless collar bones, to my most recent neck fractures... I’ve had my fair share of injuries but I’m happy to walk away happy and healthy. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life away from racing. I’ve sacrificed so much in life, things that are normal for most people, to dedicate my life to racing and training. I want to enjoy this time now with my wife, family, and friends and to say THANK YOU to all the great people and companies that have supported me throughout my career and to the fans who have enjoyed watching me race. It’s been a tough decision, I know I can still be competitive but my body has said enough with the injuries!! I’m 29 and have so much more life to live. Again thank you all and see you around!! ✌?

congrats to CP, one of my favorite racers since he came over and won his first sx race. met him at the Utah national and he was a very cool bro.

Met him at San Diego Petco Park in 2016, super nice dude. His style on the bike is something I try to emulate every time I ride.

You would be correct. He won Moto 1 and placed 2nd in Moto 2 for the overall. A great day indeed.

I really hope he takes a break, then give it a go in Endurocross a little later on like he's mentioned before, I think it would be great to see him in a more laid back and fun atmosphere. Regardless of what he chooses to do though, you really can't say anything but congratulations on a great career! Guy has done damn near everything there is to do, and done it with a style that definitely influenced my own riding and I'm sure many others.

I remember a few summers back watching the practice live stream, as it was so damn cool to see him sneak out the fast lap right at the end pretty much every week. I'd watch Bagget and go "there's no way anyone can hit that corner faster", and then I'd watch CP go what looked like about half as fast, and still edge him out speed wise. Learned a valuable lesson that just because a style looks fast doesn't always necessarily mean it is, there's a lot more to it.

Great Rider, Great Carreer, Great Decision-

This guy has a very bright future in the industry if he so chooses. His creativity on the track is a lost art.

If this guy ever did a school, I’d be all over it.

The fastest I've ever seen anyone take a corner was CP on a 250 in practice at St. Louis. Cruised around most of the session, then uncorked one section out of nowhere and hit a 90 degree right hander after a triple so fast that my friend and I both said "holy shit!" out loud. Loved watching him ride!

CP did some strange things on and off the track at times. I think some folks were turned off by those decisions.

BUT when you put them in proper context, they all made perfect sense. Some people said he expected too much of his team and bikes and held out for bigger paydays than he should have. Well, if you got paralyzed racing motocross, you would do the same thing. He was racing to make a living and he was on the receiving end of the worst our sport can offer... He wanted to be paid well if he was going to go out there and risk his life again. Plus, he had the results at times to back up those salary and equipment demands. He also pulled out of races or wouldn't push the ragged edge on certain days when he wasn't feeling it. Again, he got paralyzed on a dirt bike. He knew better than ANYONE what the risks were. When you aren't feeling it one day and you weigh the risk vs reward, his opinion on it is different than most. It happened to him. It went as bad as it could once.

So I always had a soft spot and a lot of respect for CP. He's like a really weird, French, Doug Henry in some aspects. Laughing
