If there any moto videographers on here can you please help, Im looking a getting a sub AUD$1000 camera just for putting together some short edits, nothing too serious, just a bit of fun (secondhand is fine). After recommendations for any particular type of camera that puts out a decent enough fps to shoot 1080p in slow motion.

Sony A6000. 60 fps at 1080p. Not super slow-mo but decent enough. Hyper fast auto-focus if you aren't experienced with manual focus. It's around 550 USD (body only).

Don't under estimate your cell phone video now days. The only thing on a cell phone camera that normally sucks is stabilization. But can be fixed with a hand held gimble with a phone mount to get some impressive shots, Like really impressive with the new cell phones. Check this out, the new LG V30 compared to a 50,000 Red Camera, skip to 3:00 to see the V30 shots.

A gopro or a gopro knock off can get close up shots nice and slow.

But really you need to do the research on the specs and find what you need. 1080 @ 60fps can be slowed down pretty good, but it isn't no "wow check out the roost flying at me slow" Most DSLR cameras can do the 1080 @ 60 that are well below 1000.

I would recommend sony 6300 it has 1080 120fps and with native lenses the autofocus is extremly good, but with very warm weather it sometimes suffers from overheating. My other recommendation would be panasonic GH4. it also has quailty 1080p but if I am correct it dosent record sound when recording 1080p 96fps and cant really relay on its autofocus.

I make short edits for Instagram with an Iphone 6s plus with the Camera setting at 1080 by 60 fps (works wonders compared to factory settings). I'll be investing in a camera soon but check out my Instagram @jesseheidenthal

Buy a DJI Osmo mobile and stick your cell phone in there. Perfectly stable and great video (as long as you have a decent phone)

Both of those cameras came as a recommendation from my bro (amateur photographer +tech guy). So that's definitely something ill look into.
I had thought about getting a v30 (need a new phone anyway) but id really like to have something that can record in a higher fps.

It's hard to get a camera that shoots good slow motion in that price range.

Also keep in mind that when a camera shoots 1080 60p that's not slow motion, that's just a shooting mode. Look for 48fps, 60FPS, 120fps, that means, frames per second and will actually record in slow motion like a high end camera.

The Sony A7S is a great camera and shoots in 4K. You can find them used for about $1,000usd. This will shoot up to 120FPS. Here's a test video I found online:

1080 60p is 60fps... Most people film at 30 or 60 fps. Shooting in 48fps will do you no good unless you output in 24p (fps).

The A7S is a great camera. It's what I use for all my videos. It CAN shoot 4k, but not internally. You have to use an external recorder such as an Atmos Shogun.

For good Moto slow motion, you probably want minimum 1080 120fps. iPhones say they can do this, but until the iPhone 8, it was actually 720p upscaled to 1080p.

My recommendation would be to save a little more and buy a Sony a7s ii. This does 4k in-body as well as true 1080p @120fps.
