And win the 450 title in his rookie year? Sounds outlandish but he's fast and has been a consistent rider in his career.

In a shot across the bow he was fastest in qualifying. He got good starts in both motos. Moto one he lost the mojo for a bit and Marvin and I think Webb passed him but he played it smart, eased back into a good rhythm and ended up passing both of them back. Yeah he crashed, but in the second moto he came in behind only Zach and Eli for 3rd place. Were it not for that crash he'd have possibly ended up second for the day.

Is he a contender, what do you think?

Could Chase contend for and even win the title?

I voted long shot. He looked good enough for it not to be totally crazy but this isn’t the 2010 field and I don’t think he is Dungey

I’m somewhere between long shot and are you crazy for this specific title, but damn I am impressed with that kid.

His age, support system/team, riding style, body type and intelligence make for one of the best packages I’ve seen in a long time.

I look forward to seeing Chase battle at the front of the 450 class for years to come.

Very strong performance in his first 450 race
Completely holding his own with the best in the class

He never won a 250 outdoor title, what makes you think he will win the premier class his rookie season?

Very good rider... but he’s going to beat Eli, Anderson, zacho, marv, barcia, Webb, Baggett all of which fucking haul the mail.. And consistently beat them not just once or twice. I think chase will be fast and be top 5 a couple time maybe even som podiums but win the 450 championship?!?! No way.. let’s wait and see if he can hang with the Eli on a wide open rough track!!

Wait a couple rounds and see. 2010 field is no where near this talented and stacked. Love chases style and how he rides the 450. Could be something special

He came into the salt lake rounds looking like a totally different guy, a real confidence about his riding that didn’t seem to be there before. Really impressed with how he’s took to the 450, his smooth but aggressive style seems to fit perfectly and I’m excited to see what he can bring for the season ahead.
I’m all for another guy in the mix for race wins, seems like it should be a good season.

I'd be less surprised if AC did he (obviously now probably that's over already). Sexton is good but as far as I remember he hasn't won a single race in 250s outdoors

He's a good rider, but I don't like him. He whines all the time like Roczen. His mechanics don't seem to like him either.

Dungey's my favorite rider of the past 20 years...he's no Dungey.

I think he was ahead of Eli and everyone else you mentioned except Anderson and Zach in the first moto before his crash. And in the second moto he beat everyone you mentioned except Zach and Eli. He qualified #1. He's coming off of back-to-back supercross championships. Any of those guys win back-to-back supercross titles? He's a great starter. But what really impressed was the way he came back to pass Musquin and I think Webb after they passed him well into the moto.

There's a reason a champ loses his chick to a contender.

2010 vs 2020 line up... big difference.

Chase looks good, and id expect some podiums and even a win.
But as always, we just don't know.

Look at the Hype and expectations from AC9.
one of my fav riders, but careers and titles are so unexpected and the top 10 this year is actually stacked and super deep.

Although.. It also wouldn't be a long shot if Chase ends up in a title hunt from just being consistent.

He does remind me of dungey. Great technique, rips but doesn’t look like he’s pushing, and if he can get more consistent with the small goofs he will get to that level. However the 2010 field of competition isn’t the 2020 field. He’s gonna be something in the future though

Ok so your saying he didn’t consistently beat anyone????? And supercross is t anything like outdoor AMA nationals, not even close, ask chad reed about qualifying and how much qualifying #1 means... he had a great day/round of racing let’s let him have 3-4 more good rounds before we give him the championship mmmmk..

Chase is at least 7-10th in line if we're talking about who has the best chances at the title. From the knowledge we have at this point and time the top 10 contender list would look something like this...

1. Eli Tomac
2. Jason Anderson
3. Cooper Webb
4. Zach Osborne
5. Marvin Musquin
6. Blake Bagget
7. Justin Barcia
8. Adam Cianciarulo
9. Chase Sexton
10. Joey Savatgy

After just mocking this up I have Chase 9th...

I don't put too much stock in the back to back 250 SX titles. For one SX is only against half of the competition. Two, he got a gift from Forkner for the first one and this year all he had to beat was Shane Mcelrath, a guy who was in the 250 class for years but could never manage to get the job done.

Against all of the competition in 250 MX he had one moto win a zero overalls.

Weird stuff always happens at round 1. Lets see if he can hang with the big boys as the season progresses.

Chase is great, but fuck no... Less to do with him, more to do with the field.

This is not a 2010 field, at the top or mid-pack... Fragile comeback Ben Townley and sick Chad Reed....

Everyone but Kenny is there and Marv is apparently good to go.

Cheers, Crush

Style on the 450 reminds me a bit of AC, scrubbing and whipping the bike but he looks more fluid/in control. Not sure how he will go moto wise, but looks like straight out speed wont be an issue. Expected him to do well, but he actually looks more aggressive on the 450.

He seems pretty strong, and looked good saturday. That track though, was so out of the norm as far as an outdoor national, that it's hard to gauge from.
Regardless, he diced well with the best of the best out there, so I'm sure he's legit and capable of a win on the right day or right track. As far as a 450 mx title this year........I wouldn't think so, but like Webb winning the 2019 suoercross title...... you never know.

Don't underestimate his accomplishment of back to back SX titles, even if it is only the 250 East.

Yesterdays track was gnarly and he ran near the front part of moto 1 and all of moto 2.

Right now I have him ahead of AC, Barcia and Baggett; maybe even JA. I think he'll be more consistent than those guys.

to answer the OP question - No.

Mud always mixes things up. The Track crew did a great job . . . the way the track rutted up made it as close to a mud race as you could get. Osborne rode a great race and deserved the overall. Tomac looked happy to get out of there 11 points down. Stewart is doing one hell of a job coaching Sexton.

Its too early to tell. He did great on his first race but so did AC at monster cup.

I think if chase can swing a top 5 finish in the outdoor season championship standings he may be the thing to end hondas streak of title losses.
