Motocrossplanet.nl reports that Covington is not riding in Valkenswaard. Reason is that he could find his rhythm in the practices and therefore decided to pull out.

I mean I'm obviously not in a position to judge but damn the time between the end of 2018 and now must have been really bad and hard for him. Do we ever see him ride up to his potential again? I saw races in 2018. He charged, he didn't settle, he went for wins and beat guys like Prado straight up. When I saw him at the supercross lcq last year when he started single jumping and rolling everything in 22 position I couldn't believe my eyes. Did he lost his whole mental game? Is Covington (an ex MX2 winner) mentally ready to fight for places outside the 30s every weekend? I wish him the best but damn it's hard to watch as a fan..

After seeing the pictures from today, I can’t say I blame him.

This is a freaking mystery. Like Mavetism mentioned, he was such a good rider 2 years ago an now he is dropping out of a race because of he can't find his rhythm? Have we ever seen a decline like this?

He’s dropping out because he couldn’t find his rhythm in a qualifying session? I thought he was a professional.

That’s the most BS excuse I’ve heard yet to drop out of a race. Has to be something else going on.

That cannot be the reason surely? There’s got to be something else. I can’t find my rhythm so I’m not riding roughly translates to me as I’m riding shit and I can’t be arsed to try and push through it. I can’t believe that the team would be okay with that

Maybe the 39 other riders on the gate should do the same?

So you're not going to work if the weather is bad?

In qualifying practice at Matterley last weekend, he stopped right in front of me & started pulling the duck tape off from under his mudguards. I was like WTF are doing ?!?

He will not survive the whole season on the team if that really is the reason for him not lining up today. What a bizarre situation.

Has to be mental.

Doubt he'll get another sponsored ride unless a family member funds it.

I've never heard of this as a reason not to race at the professional level. Basically I'm not feeling it today , I think I'll sit this one out. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last we see of him in professional motocross.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised.

If I told my boss in the morning that I wouldn't come to work because I didn't feel like it I for sure didn't need to come back in at all, like ever.

Do we know for sure it was even his decision?

Holy crap people, we don’t need to compare this to ourselves all the time - “if this happened in my job”... - sheesh, this is thread the “me first/its all about me” society we live in now

His decline is very interesting. There has to be something going on. He goes from being legitimately one of the best 250 riders in the world to looking awful. It seems like hes not even trying at this point.

Like he's afraid of getting hurt maybe ? If that's the case, and I'm not saying it is , it truly is over.

I get the feeling it's been over for a while. I dont see any way he improves back to a top 10 rider.

He’s suffering from a sore pussy.
He’s done, only so many chances at this level and he’s a bad investment.

With the lack of information regarding his performance it's very telling that the people who know whats going on don't want to say.
MX2 GP winners don't just get slow over night

It was the same during his American stint last yr too, he had one decent 10 mins in the 1st moto at Pala (I think) and that was it - I don't think anyone ever really got to the bottom of what was/is going on. And the few interviews were sort of somewhat weird and non-committal.

The thing is he had to claw his way up in MX2. Good ride or not he was at the back for a couple of yrs before he turned it around and then of course won motos, got podiums etc - so the guy clearly has something... But I agree the whole thing is pretty bizarre.

We all know you have to be driven to be a racer. I think he spent some time away from racing and maybe realized it’s just not for him? Unfortunately there are people counting on him to perform. I don’t think Big Air Tom is hurting for money either, so that makes it that much easier.

Not everyone has iron man longevity in this sport but he is still pretty young and not far removed from being a potential winner in MX2. Shouldn't just drop from that to mid-pack Canadian national speed overnight. There weren't exactly career threatening injuries the last few years either. It's kind of like that cartoon movie Space Jam where the NBA all stars touch that basketball and it completely sucks the talent right out of them.

It's a bummer, but I think he's done too.

I used to open up my DVR and watch MX2 first just so I could see how TC did. Then watch MXGP... I am/was a fan, I've said it before and really wished the best for the kid. But the fire is gone and that is how his career will end unfortunately.

Feel bad for the guy but he lost the mental edge to do this stuff.

I get the feeling that something happened to him like he developed vertigo or something. Maybe from illness, who knows.
