Does 22 get a top 10 finish this season?

2/15/2018 6:22pm
If so, what round?

Does he finish the season, or take the record for career starts, then ride off into the sunset?

He really has nothing to prove, and it can’t be any fun for a rider with his pedigree to be getting smoked every weekend.

Oh yeah. I wouldn't be surprised at a top 5 to be honest , after he gets that ankle feeling better. People have been writing him off way too soon , going on like 5 - 7 years , and it keeps back firing on them. You have to have a LOT of drive , to ride at his age , at that level , and being injured......how the hell could you bet against him?

Experience is what that dude has , in spades.

I say he gets a top 10, grabs the start record, finishes the year and comes back next year fully prepared.

I know Ralph keeps blathering on about it week after week but does anyone know if Chad actually even cares about the start record?

I just can't imagine someone with the major accomplishments that Reed has giving two shits about holding the record for most starts.

Yes, he will. First top 10 will be in Tampa, IMO.

Chad has stated a few times this year that he wants the start record and the oldest main event win.

I was thinking the same until I thought about it a bit differently..

To have the most starts means he was among the fastest 20 SX riders in the world for the longest amount of time to add that to his other stats kinda improves them in my brain

Chad is a guy who has to have his bike 'just right'. if he has only just started testing and still cant ride much with a busted ankle...

it COULD happen. I think a win is possible, but he has to 100%. and i couldnt tell you what round that will come in

Even if he doesn’t I bet the son of a bitch finishes every damn race he enters!!!

I think its time for him to realize that might not come to fruition.

I've been a big chad fan, but Im just wondering why he doesnt retire? He isnt competitive.

In the last 2 years (since Feb. 15th 2016) he has 2 podiums (ATL Feb. 26, 2016 and Phoenix Jan. 28, 2017), if you include all of 2016 and 2017 he has 4, with 2 more of those being early in 2016. What happened to the king of podiums?? He got old and the young guys are pretty fast too, maybe its more of Chad getting old, but either way he can't even get on the podium, it kind of hurts to watch this great racer going out not competitive.

His last win was literally 3 years ago on Feb. 21st, 2015.

Chad wont win another main unless all the stars align correctly. That is Tomac out, Roczen out, Musquin, Anderson, and you might as well throw in Seely, Baggett, and Barcia all out or down in turn 1. Heck, i think Peick would win before Reed would.

From what I recall Larocco was more competitive than Reed while racing his last say 2-3 seasons. Reed is hardly cracking the top 5 in the past 2 years.

No I don't think he does. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see it happening.

He might if the heavy hitters keep dropping like flies. I'm a fan. I like loracco. I like that Chad's accomplishing the start record. My kid MIGHT see someone else break that record if shes lucky. Has Chad ever gotten really screwed up other than on his Honda during sx? Drawing a blank but dont recall that he has. Also impressive.

As has been stated before, if everyone in the field that is as “uncompetitive” as CR22 is currently retired, there would be a lot of empty gates!

Sure he is past his prime, Championship winning form, but with an injury, and it’s effect on his preparation and current pace, I wouldn’t write him off for better results than we have seen lately.
As he heals up, gets back in better shape and gets the totally new (to him) bike sorted, better results should come.

The attrician will have thinned the field pretty heavy by the later rounds. You combine that with a healthy body and time to dial in the bike and I’m pretty sure we will see some top 5’s out of him before the seasons out.

He deserves the record if he can continue to make the mains each week. The record states nothing about finishing position....if he can make the mains all the power to him for being that consistent for so many years. Good for him!

Top 10, yes. As for the rest, time will tell.

If still healthy towards the end of the season he should make the top 10. Basically anyone hanging around 12th currently should be top 10 by end of season due to attrition.

I believe he will finish in the top 10 before the season is out. I think a win is out of the cards. Father time remains undefeated.

22 people on the gate for the 450 main.
Chad is always one of those 22.
More than 22 come to qualify for the main.
They don't.Chad does.

With that assessment-why the fuck should he retire!?

He will get more fit and faster as the season goes on, and the field will thin out. He's always good at Vegas. Maybe a podium there. He's Chad Reed. He can still do it on the right night.

He seems to be getting better starts on the Husky.

Once he is fit I say look out!

Will he win? Don't know but podium before the end of the season.

Oh absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to finish top 5 in some race later in the season.

So we should only take 10-12 pro-riders for each main event every night according to your level of being competitive? Cause that what it means, the other 32 riders that Chad is on the same level as should just stop riding. Including Weimer, Boogle, Deano, Friese etc?

Stupid comment, so stupid.

Yeah he's been much better out the gate... not always a lighting reaction but has driven well... he has had horrible starts since 15.

How many of you lot actually race because it's fun? You ever think that maybe he's still racing because he enjoys it still and wants to keep pushing until he cant? Be happy for the guy and give the dude some credit for still being able to mix it with kids old enough that could be his own. Be sure some of his old Kurri high school peers would have juniors that age anyway Laughing

CR22 has been a top 1-5 rider his entire career. Because of his injury he was late to get started and is not YET in his top shape and speed but I can still see him going top 5 this year.
