For some reason i Dig seeing pictures of pro's when they where on 80's & 85's
A lot of the time they where the fastest guys in their local area even when they where on those bike's.

Digging all the pics! Anyone know who the 16yo sensation they are talking about on this cover is?
Larry Brooks, R&D Suzuki, 1982. He was testing the new water cooled 83 RM80 late in the fall of 82 for Minicycle Action/Motocross Action mags at Saddleback. The pics were taken around November or so in 82, but the article didn’t publish until July or August of 83. By late spring of 83, he was done at Suzuki if memory serves correct and headed to Honda on big bikes. If I’m wrong I’ll own it, keep in mind I’m old now ?. But in truth, the real answer to your question was none other than Ronnie Lechien. This cover from MXA was really special, featuring two amazing 16 year olds at the time. The 80’s were so special....

Not the exact bike but this Chris Hill replica is awesome. I remember when he first raced it and being a factory rider at 11/12yrs old i thought he was the best. All the other super fast riders were still on YZ60’s and Chris wasn’t even in the same post code as them. Chris visited the states and was a top 3 guy over there in the mid 80’s

In that picture I posted, Ryan Hughes wasn't one of the fastest. His older brother Jeremy was definitely a better rider at the time.
Funny how that works with older brothers; they always start out faster but often get surpassed. In 1985 the guy I probably would have said was fastest at Barona was Keith Craig, older brother to Mike and uncle to Christian.

84 KX 60. Was nothing more than an 83 with a blue seat and updated graphics, but oh what a machine they would prove to be. Still have one of my 83’s, currently being restored. My first batch of bikes given to me from Team Green, I’ll never part with it. Funny story though, we had one 83 leftover that was never used when the 84 came out..... solution? Slap a blue seat on it with updated graphics. As we were instructed by Mr. Jordan himself...... “They’ll never know ??”.

Yup..Lancer leathers. They were actually hand me downs from a kid named Brian Bruner. I used a seam ripper to take his last name off, but it still said Bruner. That bike was also one of his clapped out practice bikes.

I don't think Brooks went pro until around '85. For some reason, I want to say the guy they're talking about is Keith Bowen. I haven't read that article since it came out 35 years ago, though, so I'm probably wrong.

Edited to Add: Falcon, do you have any more photos from that time frame at Barona? I used to go there almost every weekend to watch my friends Matt and Mike Brown race (my mom would never sign off on me or my brother racing).

First thing my dad did was put an 80 swingarm on mine.. Sorry, second thing, the first thing he did was try to repair the rear guard

This has been one of my favorites for a long time. Langston on a stinking PW80! Having the dad in the pic makes it cool.

Those were the days.
Drooling over Minicycle/BMX Action. Riding from dawn to dusk. Racing every chance we got.
