Found an actual solution for armpump

Rock climbing + voodoo flossing for recovery = way less arm pump

Rock climbing really works the forearms like nothing else I've tried.

Voodoo flossing is just a marketing term for a physio technique where you wrap a rubber band around your forearms and do exercises to loosen up the fascia and tendons. Basically like a deep-tissue massage. Also works good on old man knees. I learned about it reading a physio book called The Supple Leopard by Kelly Starrett. It's quite technical but worth the read if your body is falling apart like me lol

Anyways just thought I'd share in case anyone is interested because it made a big difference for me.

for me personally, my diet (No red meat, dairy, ) and caffeine intake eliminated arm pump almost completely. I say almost because I take long periods off the bike.

Don't you think it may be due to the fact that your hands and fingers are stronger now from rock climbing? Seems to be something everyone neglects when looking for solutions to arm pump, strengthen your hands and fingers and it's unlikely you'll get death grip and pump up.

Never understood why more riders dont use climbing for training. Lots of gyms in socal. The Bostroms used to climb when they were racing superbikes, not sure now that they are so into cycling.

Arm pump for me I'm pretty sure was always mental.
I could ride practice laps at pretty much full pace for hours or local club races no issue.

But big races that put me out of my comfort zone I would struggle a lot with the death grip and wear out after literally 3 laps if not careful.

My fix was to ride 3 or 4 laps hard in morning practice at the get go, and feel the lock up of the forearms, then rest for an hour if possible. No pump for rest of the day.

Nearly same as what I do....however I'll ride a few laps not overly hard and when I feel arm pump coming on I'll rest for maybe 15-20 minutes then I am good to go the rest of the day..

I've never got excruciating arm pump. I'm big into powerlifting and get more of a pump from farmer walk and shrugs. Maybe my forearms are just conditioned to handle it, idk. I ride an FC450.

As long as you high five yourself in equally from left to right... it works like a champ!

Arm pump sucks man. I get it from riding but also other things like playing certain things on guitar for example. It may have something to do with strength, flexibility, I'm not sure. I just know how irritating it is.

I remember JMB doing rock climbing back in the day. Rock or wall climbing definitely gives you that horrible arm pump that is all too familiar from mx track

When I rock climbed it made my arm pump worse. I have a feeling it was just because I didnt climb enough to really strengthen anything, just wear myself out. Just my experience.

Using a c-clamp as a forearm strong works pretty good for this specific fix.
