IMO Tech 10 quality has gone downhill every new model. Sure they look and feel better but just don’t seem to hold together like they used too. Never had Gaerne, but I’m considering them for my next set of boots. Interested to hear what people have to say that have worn both.

I just upgraded to a pair of sg12’s after 5 years in my sg10’s. The 10’s still work/function fine. Top notch quality.

They're not designed to be dragged behind your truck. Seriously, I have a few pair of SG10's with over 400 hours on them still in good shape. What did you do to them?

Gaerne SG12. On my second pair. They are fairly stiff, but very comfortable.

Tech 10s here. Mine always hold up really well. I’d be interested in trying a pair of Gaerne if they are less stiff than the Tech 10s.

I’ve been wearing the SG12’s since they came out. Used SG10’s before that. I’ve never had a single issues with any of them.
On the other hand.... I have friends that wear the A-Stars tech 10’s and they go through soles really fast. I don’t think the A-Stars quality is anywhere near the Gearne boots.

I've been seriously contemplating getting some new boots ....I have a pair of Tech 6's (the ones that look almost identical to that classic tech 8 design) they're not old by any means and still in good shape but dammit they're stiff!! I can barely feel the bike and have a hard time feeling anything on my footpegs especially brake and shifter wise. I don't mean to thread-Jack here but can anyone recommend a boot with better flex and feel that isn't cheaply made? I'm ok with the correlated less safety that comes from a boot that moves a little better and allows me to "feel" my bike better.

I’m biased but I have a full season of off road races on the new generation tech 10 and they are holding up extremely well. I’ve had the last two generations as well and I’d agree after a season those looked pretty beat. These new ones though seem to be a lot more durable not just in the sole but the entire outer boot still looks practically new even though I’ve beat the crap out of them. I think if your only concern is a boot lasting 14 years then yes the gaerne is tough to beat. But if you also want the best feel and protection I don’t think the tech 10 can be matched.

How's the sizing between the two boots? An Alpinestars size 12 fits me perfectly, but I'm not impressed with them. Does a Gaerne size 12 fit the same as Alpinestars?

G's too.

The white can stain pretty easy. Use shout laundry cleaner and pressure wash.

Both are great boots, but I like the smooth and rounded edges on the foot area of the Tech 10's. I noticed that when I dab a foot or drag my leg the tech 10 slides and never dig into the dirt, compared to the sg 12 tends to "catch" the dirt more often due to the lip of the sole and steel toe, which caused me to tweak my knee a few times.

I currently run a set of SG12's, I had a pair of sg10's prior. The 10's sole seemed to hold up much better but the 12's are more comfortable.

Both are excellent boots. My suggestion would be to try each on and decide which is more comfortable for your foot shape.

It blows my mind that people can blow through either one of these in a short period of time. I've had a pair of Fox Instincts for almost 2 years and haven't replaced so much as a buckle... and according to some members, it's a far inferior boot than the aforementioned two.

I have both. The A-Stars bootie is really comfy but once the SG-12 breaks in its pretty nice Also. I use standard pegs(no bear traps here) and they seem similar In wear areas but the A-Star looks like it wants to chunk more so then Gearne’s rubber sole.
The deciding factor in quality is after the A Star breaks down ,the area where the ankle and foot meet it’s almost too soft to the point that I question the support.
There is just some thing about that Italian quality imho.

I had to go down a size for SG12's.

I really like both boots, but I will give the SG12's the top spot.

They noticed that most of the riders in the Dakar 2020 all wore Tech 10's.

I've had my current pair of SG12s for over 10 years. Still in great shape besides never going to look white again. Just ordered a new pair of SG12s that'll be here next week!
I had I think it was Tech 8 in 2005 and Tech 10 in 2006. Both Alpinestar boots seemed to break a buckle or two every other race.

Just bought pair new tech10's, previous were 7. Have good experience with alpinestars.
Still need to ride with the new ones but when trying them on they feel very comfortable, quality seems top also.
When i asked about durability from the soles they said it is softer compound to have more grip on the pegs, that is why you also can buy replacement soles...
No experience with Gaerne, but prefer the looks of Alpinestars.
For enduro I recently purchased fox instinct enduro, also good boots...

I’m a size down from my w everyday shoe size as well.. 10’s in SG12’s, and 11’s in tech 10’s

I have lots of hours in my SG12’s and they’re the stoutest boot I’ve owned.

I’m probably going to Tech 10’s next for no other reason than my favorite boot was the tech 8. I’m hoping for a more snug, lighter bootie style boot with better feel. I have no reason to abandon the SG12, other than I’ve never had Tech 10’s and I want to switch it up.

SG12’s are money though!

Wore tech 10’s for many years.. swallowed the SG12 pill.., sold them few months later for new pair of tech10’s. They are deff better build quality then the astars, but they had no support on the sole. I tried insoles to help, it didn’t. I could feel the foot pegs on my feet and my feet slightly wrap around the pegs. Almost as if the sole part of the boot needs more reinforcement. Not a confidence inspiring feeling. They had to go.

Same. Size 13 regular shoe, 13 in Astars and a 12 in SG12's.

I do like both boots though
