The top guys are probably fit enough to pull it off but contracts probably restrict it. I don't think AMA has a rule but I'm probably wrong. It would blow the doors off Vital if someone tried though...Ryan Sipes on a 125 and 250 pre-mixer...hells yeah.

How about anybody on the Canadian circuit in around early 90s while there were still 500’s. 6 motos in one day, 35-40 mins each. True story !

Forgot about that....but honestly, Everts could probably have raced 10 motos and won them all.

Saw Rollerball run 125, 250 and 500 in one day against mere mortals.

I’m old.

It’s not allowed in the AMA Nationals or MXGP series these days.

I don't remember them ever allowing it in the USA nationals, but I remember Barry Carsten riding 125 and 250 SX. I know he made several night shows in both and he made both mains at Daytona, Atlanta, and Cleveland (maybe more).

Everts raced 2 classes most of 03 but he just won 1 championship. But also this was when the GPs were doing a 1 moto format. He did ride all 3 classes at the last round.

You could never ride both classes outdoors but you could in SX for years. Several guys made both mains over the years. I think Denny Stephenson was the first in 88?

Back in the 90s I remember SX entry fee was 55 a class and only 70 to ride both so several privateers did it.

Yep you are right about not winning two. I thought he did because he won so much that year. I remember the three race day.

Mike Larocco did not ride 2 classes the same day at the Nationals in 1990. Back then the series was split and Suzuki and Yamaha guys would ride the 250 races and then ride the 2nd half of the 125 series when the Kawi/Honda guys would compete in the 500 championship.

And he'd usually win them all.

In about 1978 ama passed a rule forbidding riders from racing multiple classes at pro nationals.

It is known to us old timers as "the hannah rule"

There was a very real concern that he would ride and win multiple classes, back when the races were 45 minutes +2, and at places like st pete, fla, in august....

It was a legitimate concern.

Ron Turner used to do it every weekend at Saddleback except he'd do all three 125, 250, and 500 - Win all 3 half the time.

1997 NESC Southwick Invitational the week before the Nat. Most locals rode both classes 125/250 expert. Every moto was a 30+2, on one hell of a rough track! I can only recall my own day and it was good! I remember not being able to drive home that night and gave the wheel to a friend. The next week at the Nat, i went 16/13 on the 250.

Just chug a Monster after every event like the pros do. You'll be fine.

This. Back in the day, there would be several riders that would ride 2 or 3 different classes. Also, at each race there was only 1 "National" class and the other would be a support class only except for at Hangtown which always held both a 125 and 250 National every year.

In 1977, Bob Hannah won a 125 National, a 250 National and a 500 National as well as a 250 Super X, (which was the premier class back then) all in the same year. There's been several riders to win a race in each class, but none in the same year like Bob did.

This.

Barry Carsten # 32 was the King of making both in SX and was able to make good $ by doing it.
