Well, as most of us are experiencing extreme cold and snow the bordem is also setting in. Figured I share a little project I just finished.
Most of us are always cleaning parts, and Having a parts washer is the Cat’s Ass. So here is what I have done and learned!
First things first, you need the parts washer! Harbor freight has one for $89. I know tractor supply has a similar one for a similar price!
Next step is fluid! I have tried all sorts of chemicals.
-harbor freight degreaser hd stuff (works well)
-simple green green formula in gallon ( works better)
-dawn dish soap blue kind ( works even better)
-purple power (works really good but corrosive)
-Simple green Hd degreaser Blue kind (My Favorite)
So I am at 1 gallon of blue simple green heavy duty degreaser mixed with 2 gallons of water. Overall I run six gallons in my tank! Seems to be about half of what the tank will hold. Since I don’t think it can hold 20 gallons.
Next step is HEAT! Let me tell you this makes the biggest difference! Not only is hot water much more enjoyable to work with, but it cuts through the grease and grime night and day better. I found this submersible bucket heater at tractor supply for $42. It is not programable but with some tests I got the water at roughly 100 degrees. 110 at the warmest.
And lastly I ugraded the brush. The washer did not come with any brushes just a wand. So for 18.99 on amazon I hooked myself up with a flow through brush! And man I’m so glad I finally got one.

Overall i’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I saw some videos of another member making his own parts washer but charging $25 to watch a video of how to make it. So after some experimenting myself I believe I have found a safe cost effective method that I would like to share with the rest of my fellow vitards!

good on you for getting crafty and making what you need. currently looking for a large 2 or 3 compartment sink to turn into a work bench/aqueous parts washer/oil drain tank.

I'll be honest though, I have converted completely over to ultrasonic cleaners. Not only do they heat the fluid, but it's like making stew -- you put all your parts in there, set the timer, and then walk away and work on other stuff while the parts clean themselves.

that you took the time. As far as charging someone to watch a DIY vid, thats fine I guess, but without a copyright nothing stops the sharing. More to the point the way you make money is by getting enough good content and followers that you sell ads.

Maybe he was going to use the $25 to buy cardboard boxes instead of illegally using USPS Priority Mail boxes as storage bins??

My next addition is going to be adding a remote oil filter kit to it so the fluid gets filtered. I'll post more pictures when it is done!
