Well, as most of us are experiencing extreme cold and snow the bordem is also setting in. Figured I share a little project I just finished.

Most of us are always cleaning parts, and Having a parts washer is the Cat’s Ass. So here is what I have done and learned!

First things first, you need the parts washer! Harbor freight has one for $89. I know tractor supply has a similar one for a similar price!

Next step is fluid! I have tried all sorts of chemicals.

-harbor freight degreaser hd stuff (works well)
-simple green green formula in gallon ( works better)
-dawn dish soap blue kind ( works even better)
-purple power (works really good but corrosive)
-Simple green Hd degreaser Blue kind (My Favorite)

So I am at 1 gallon of blue simple green heavy duty degreaser mixed with 2 gallons of water. Overall I run six gallons in my tank! Seems to be about half of what the tank will hold. Since I don’t think it can hold 20 gallons.

Next step is HEAT! Let me tell you this makes the biggest difference! Not only is hot water much more enjoyable to work with, but it cuts through the grease and grime night and day better. I found this submersible bucket heater at tractor supply for $42. It is not programable but with some tests I got the water at roughly 100 degrees. 110 at the warmest.

And lastly I ugraded the brush. The washer did not come with any brushes just a wand. So for 18.99 on amazon I hooked myself up with a flow through brush! And man I’m so glad I finally got one.

https://www.amazon.com/OR101H-Flow-Thru-Parts-Brush-Connects/dp/B00U7LUVSI

Overall i’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I saw some videos of another member making his own parts washer but charging $25 to watch a video of how to make it. So after some experimenting myself I believe I have found a safe cost effective method that I would like to share with the rest of my fellow vitards!

Enjoy,

I just use an actual solvent rated ZEP parts washer with some really good, semi oily solvent in it. I may consider this as a second step though to wash off the solvent when needed.

good on you for getting crafty and making what you need. currently looking for a large 2 or 3 compartment sink to turn into a work bench/aqueous parts washer/oil drain tank.

Great post. I plan on buying a heater element and adding it to my parts washer too.

Nice job with all the upgrades.

I'll be honest though, I have converted completely over to ultrasonic cleaners. Not only do they heat the fluid, but it's like making stew -- you put all your parts in there, set the timer, and then walk away and work on other stuff while the parts clean themselves.

No he just figured it out. The asshole move is charging to watch a video on something you then have to go build your self. At least include a kit or something.

Edit: zesiger was obviously watching the pin. He got the jump on me out of the gate.

Say whatever you like, I spent countless days trying to perfect my method. And shared it for FREE. That guy cameron does a great job, but charging someone $25 to teach them how to clean something is shiesty. This isn’t MMI.

These work really well!!! They are filter bags. Let it run overnight and it really cleans up the fluid. I get 3x more life out of it this way.

oil filter adapter kit(amazon) and a PH8A filter, two lengths of rubber hose and some creative mounting should do the trick for any parts washer,

Look i dont really care either way. Cameron made that product literally like 4 days ago and charged money to make a living. Nothing wrong with that.

You copied it and gave it away for free. No different than copying a movie and putting it on piratebay. Not cool.

Im not that much of a tight ass guys. I didnt pay for the video & you bet im making one now lmao

To the OP thanks for sharing, that’s cool
that you took the time. As far as charging someone to watch a DIY vid, thats fine I guess, but without a copyright nothing stops the sharing. More to the point the way you make money is by getting enough good content and followers that you sell ads.

Oh, THAT GUY.

Maybe he was going to use the $25 to buy cardboard boxes instead of illegally using USPS Priority Mail boxes as storage bins??

Did he rip/copy the guys original movie/video and post it here? NO!
Did he tell the plot & outcome here? YES!
There's a difference...certainly not DMCA type BS.

I like how mixing Simple Green HD cleaner with water twice as rich as the instructions is a trademarked product now. Hey guess what guys, I put *TWO* eggs in my pancake mix instead of one. Don't you dare copy my incredibly complex recipe that I'm sure tons of people do already, but I said it aloud first on Vital, so it's totally mine.

There Is nothing proprietary about that. Pretty basic, and a great use of a rainy day to be honest. 25 bucks for a how to video on how to do this? Pfft....Fair play, sucker born every minute i guess, but Sixeightone did nothing wrong here. And don't act like he did.

I saw about 100 of those, but didn't like the idea of drilling a big hole in my parts washer for a heating element. It took quite a while to find something submersible that would get the water hot enough.

My next addition is going to be adding a remote oil filter kit to it so the fluid gets filtered. I'll post more pictures when it is done!

Wait dude.....you just lectured ( and called names ) towards sixeightone for doing something , and then you turn around and say " You bet your ass I'm building one too." BlinkDizzy

@Sixeightone : Thank you for this info , and thank you for not charging us like some other douche' bag did!

Someone actually charged money on how to build a parts cleaner? How many years have these been around?
