So I will say now I am COMPLETELY new to anything dealing with motocross. I have a Honda f4i 600rr street bike and I LOVE it. However I just came across this deal in my town. Wondered if I could get some tips, help, thoughts, ideas, advice ANYTHING is helpful.
The bike is a 1986 Honda CR250. Looks super good in my opinion for the age but then again I'm a complete dummy with this. The guy said if I wanted it he would drop the price to $500 since he thinks it's awesome a girl is trying to get into the hobby. Has clean title in hand. Lots of receipts for any work done. Had been sitting for 6 months in a shed but fired right up on the second try. (A buddy that rides was with me as I've not been on one) so I'm just looking to see what other people may think that have had experience and been around this scene. Thank you in advance. I apologize for the grainy photos as it was night time.

STFU Newb.
The Shop
and going like this
you should do alright. And end up a Vitalstar, with a free new bike
I'd start with the power bands. While they are good in those when new, they tend to get a little stretched out and soft with age. Bit like tits
A 250 will be to much for you and as the others have said the parts and maintenance for that bike are not something you want to deal with starting off.
A 125 2 stroke makes 35 horse power and a 250 2 stroke will make 45 horse power.
A 250 4 stroke makes 35-40 horse power and a 450 4 stroke makes 50+ horse power.
4 strokes are easier to ride but they are heavier and more expensive and complicated to fix.
If you read around on a yz125 many people will say they are slow but trust me they are plenty fast enough even for experienced riders.
Good luck
Pit Row
That's an amazing bike though. Prob one of the best bikes made. And historically significant as the quantum leap of being the first production bike with a cartridge fork.
Where are you going to use this bike? Back yard, single track trails, MX track?
If she can ride a 600 crotch rocket, I say hop up to the YZ250. So much more forgiving on the trails and the track. Much easier to ride. Those 125's are hard to ride, as well as mentally taxing to go fast on any terrain.
Yep, I say YZ250. If you can afford it, 2007 and newer. Easy to find parts for. Easy to find one in your price range. And literally they are all over the place. Probably one for sale on your street!
I think 250 two stroke might be too powerful and quite difficult to handle in difficult terrain
Cheers and welcome to the Dirt!
Rider friendly mx bike -250f (more complex to maintain)
If you like the power and feel just fine on the 600, a 125 would be great for you. You can ride it fast and probably won't get into too much trouble. A 250 2 stroke makes some serious power when it comes on the pipe and you have to be ready for it. I've seen women who can handle it and I've seen some who could not.
For all I know, you could be a better rider than I am, so you might be fine on a KX500 - someone will come along pretty soon in this thread and recommend one of those, I'm sure.
