So he shatterd the top of his foot and his mechanic Ruben said he is out for an estimate of 2 to 4 months.
If he misses to much Gp's and he wil be out of the championship contention i can't see any reason to go ride Gp's to be honest. He calls himself the fantast man on the planet.
If there was ever a good time to go outdoors it should be this year

In a sad, twisted way this will make the MXGP series more interesting in terms of the title. Febvre, Gajser, 222, even the Panda, Paulin and Seewer have their best chance to take a title in the Herlings era if he's truly out for 4 months.

Barring any injury, TC wins it by a mile

Edit: Just to clarify, this is if Herlings misses a bunch of rounds

This was my thinking also. Kid is super fast, but staying off the ground is probably his biggest challenge.

It seems that it would be an interesting option to go to the USA because of this injury if it really affects the MXGP season, but as far as I know, that is still not clear.

Don't you think the people that pay him want him to show up where they show up?

Herlings should just sign up for the AMA Nationals. Sounds like he'll. be healthy by then. Knock out one season here, more than likely capture the title, and silence any naysayers. Okay, it probably would just further ignite any debates about who is the best, but it sure would be fun to watch.

The dude's had some serious crashes the last few years. I'm a huge fan of his and would love to see him win another championship. Ya he had a horrible year last year with crashes and starting out with the broken jaw and all, but I hope he doesn't go the way of Febvre(who I am another big fan of). It's hard to beat TC's consistency. The dude is older than everyone else, faster than all but one guy on most days and knows how to ride smart to win championships. How can anyone bet against TC when Herlings is gone?

I never used to follow MXGP, at least not since the 70's and then it was on magazine. Now that I'm watching it will be pretty exciting......JH coming back after healing will throw a cool twist in to an already dynamic situation. MXGP riders are fast and fun to watch....Tony has an opportunity to add another championship to his legacy but anything can happen....just ask Herlings.

Greubel ( KTM) said ( intervuew MXLarge) 6 weeks healing for a normal person ...Herlings is probably ready for Argentina , maybe skips that first one to let it heal properly ... last option would make it more interesting

would love to see him race a full AMA season , dont think its going to happen ....

great....will the GP fans insist on an asterisk for the 2019 champ if Jefferey isn't really in the mix and the guy who wins is only by default? That is the usual routine and argument here it seems. Sure hope Jeff makes it back to make it fun and challenging, otherwise I see Tim Gajser winning, but the GP class oughta be thankful that Prado is in the 250s this year.

Gajser had a few big ones also in the season he won the title but he managed to not get hurt. The problem is that when he goes down, he goes down hard.

Herlings won’t come to America to silence naysayers. He will come to America for millions of dollars.

If he did come here and dominate with a really classy attitude, he could take droves of the American fan base back to the GPs with him. I think it would be awesome for him and the sport in general.

I would love if he came here and raced full time. It’ll never happen though.

I also have seen the whatsapp printscreen of his mechanic saying its a 2-4 month thing, but i never believed it. Yesterday the teamboss came with a statement its a 4 to 6 weeks thing wich sounds more normal and easy to believe, why should he be lying? The screenshot could be set up to let People worry or give the competition false hope..

He will be Allright and will not race the great outdoors. (Would be amazing tho)

We all know how well Herlings recovers, it would not surprise me to see him at Argentina riding for good points.
But he may play smart and wait till Matterley which is 8 weeks away and round 2, this would give him 6 weeks rest then 10 day to get back on the bike and ready for the season, the good thing with broken bones in the foot (not the ankle) is that you can heavily strap/and protect the foot (even stiffer/thicker leather they can hand make boots to suit).

I have had a rider with a complete tib fib compound break come back to race after 6 weeks (with no pin, plate or magic, just natural healing) he came back and lead the race but was a bit rusty.
I am sure he is motivated not only to win a another title but to also to stop Cairoli equalling Stefans 10 World title as I am sure he would want to be the one to do that.
But also the foot is a very complex part of the body and he has to also think of long term damage. its anyone guess but it will definitely spiced up the pre season motivation for the other MXGP riders who may change training tactics to go all out for an explosive start rather that thinking of the long season stratedy.

Counter point...

He had one good season, won a championship, and now it's an expectation for some reason? The same can be said for Febvre.
