Had a wild ride at this year's Vegas to Reno! After getting on the bike just 10 miles before at Pit 4 in Goldfield, a wild donkey ran out in front of me leaving me no room and I ended up hitting it but riding out of it! The end result was best case scenario in my book and I was able to finish out both of my 100 mile sections, but it could have been much worse. We ended up 4th O/A on the day after a few different setbacks..

Heres's a recap of the action from Pit 4 - Pit 5

You will probably hear from animal huggers over that one.

You got lucky, full blown T-Bone and you would have been the first one there.

Man that was close.... I had a similar thing happen making up time in an enduro on a fire road. This was a deer ( much smaller than a donkey) and I was only at about 55-65 mph, but that sound you made immediately after was very relatable. I think I was screaming fuck for 10 minutes straight with my heart rate pegged. Glad you made it out ok man that was hairball. Cheers on the ride too.

If he turned a little more to the right it would have been all over.

You are a crazy Mo Fo riding that fast in the dirt. I am getting high blood pressure and a panic attack just watching you go 100MPH with rocks and ruts everywhere.

Damn, I need a beer. Great ride though, how did you finish?

Wow! Glad you are alright, that could have been tragic for you and the Donkey.

What camera are you using that provides that telemetry...speed and miles?

Thanks! And I hit 103 a couple minutes later so not too long! The story I told everyone in the pits was way downplayed compared to the video so I must've done a good job getting it out of my mind!

Ended up 4th Overall at the end of the day. We had very little front brake from mile 100 through the finish so it was tough to get comfortable and confident with all of those fast roads out there

Congrats on the ride man and the save!

Those are ferel donkeys that were left behind from miners back in the 1800s... they are also mean little sons of bitches and will attack you if you try to get close!

That's gnarly. Did you clip your hand on the donkey or did the front tire catch it?

At least it didn't cost you "Fastest Man on the Planet" status while going for MXDN glory like Albertyn:

I kicked the rear end around to bounce off of it like I did but smashed my leg pretty good in the process. No serious injuries and I was able to finish out my day as planned

Yikes. Nice ride.

I'm guessing the bikes started ahead of everyone? Didn't look like you had many tracks ahead of yours, and it wasn't too beat up.

Or maybe it's just cause you're going so fast... Wink

Landed on a deer on a step-up triple here in ‘02...wasted the pipe and tossed me like a frisbee...but yours is a whole other level of bike vs critter...glad you were able to ride it out. Huge respect to you guys, I don’t know how you go that fast on dirt.

WOW, nice save!
Not sure how you would ever want to get over about 30 mph after that!
