A friend and I are having a bet about KRoc's Honda and how much is weighs. One of us thinks it's near the minimum 220 allowable weight. One of us thinks it's significantly over the allowable weight. The stock Honda is reported to be 239lbs, can they get it to minimums with having to abide by having stock swingarm, frame, engine cases etc...

Anyone have proof of the weight, maybe a photo from tech inspection?

Dial 1800-HONDA and ask for Eric Kehoe. He will tell you.

I would think most of the bikes out there will be right at the minimum weight ... otherwise what’s the point 🤷‍♂️

I'd be pretty shocked if it's not at the minimum weight. It's a factory race bike.

I found it strange that they use steel axles (as per MXA vid i believe)

Steel axles are a lot stiffer and I think they are trying hard to keep the fork legs in alignment to stop twisting and reduce friction.

I've asked the AMA for bike weights before. They don't release them.

MCR bikes aren't running Ti, and they were up front most of the night.

Do you think it's a closely guarded secret for those teams who may not be near minimum?

I don't think you're wrong. There may be some element of sparing embarrassment.

That said, I think it's generally accepted that the KTMs and Huskys are on the lighter side, as well as the Hondas.

Do they release any other quantified spec: sound level, fuel capacity, etc?

They probably don't even track that data in any manner, so long as it passes: you roll it on the scale, you either pass or you fail, nobody particularly cares about the color of plastic. There's a hundred more guys that need to come through, and if each take 5 minutes for the entire inspection, that's already more than a full day of work.

That's certainly the way it plays out at the amateur level, and I don't see why the pros need anything more sophisticated.

Why Honda, it would seem they have a larger hurdle getting to minimums with twice pipes?

Didn't Reed say his stock Husky was lighter than his factory Yamaha?

I think we'd be surprised to know they aren't too far from standard. A bit, but not as much as you might think. Ok, they've saved weight in X,Y,Z areas, but then they've added skid plates, 'protectors', oil coolers, data collection tools etc. etc.

Would they be running three, maybe even two speed gearboxes in SX?? In all the Go Pro vids I watch now, I take note of gear changes and there doesn't seem to be many.

Have you ever held a pair of those gears in your hand? They're weighty...
Lighter fly-wheels for faster revving? Maybe another rider prefers a heavier flywheel??

The new Hondas are single muffler. Gotta watch the GPs to keep up with news, otherwise you’re a season behind

I think its safe to assume its close to the minimum limit, but yeah not seen any facts on its weight or any other factory bikes for that matter

One (or two) things for sure: the factory Yamaha and Suzuki in the states are not at the weight limit.
I also doubt that the Honda is.
You just can‘t save that much weight with a few titanium pieces to bring the weight down AND compensate for all the electronics they put on the bike.

Recently seen a vid I think it was Kris Keefer at a previous race (maybe Arlington) doing a tid bits of KR’s bike. He was interviewing his mechanic & he said they were using a 14/57 sprocket combo.. Keefer chuckled at the mechanics response of the combo..
Heck if an insider can’t get the sprocket combo on his bike getting the weight info would be virtually impossible..

For those interested in seeing the vid.. Keefer ROCKS !

It's about at the 8 min. mark.

you'd be surprised how much weight can be cut with just bolts.

swing arm and suspension bolts in TI can save a whole lot just on its own.
then you through in hubs, pipes, engine cases, internals fork lugs etc... there is a lot of weight to be saved.

The big question is should Kenny run race fuel in his 450.

The thing is they add some heavier item also like stronger wheels and hubs and spokes etc, heavy duty tubes blah blah blah

Uhhhh, wasn't this thread about Ken Roczen's bike? He rides...you know, in the USA for Honda and not the GPs. And I'm pretty sure I just watched the Atlanta SX and he did in fact still have twice pipes....LOL

There is a reason I asked this question and it would open up a more interesting thread if a factual answer came out of this.

I figured there had to be a know it all in the vitard community somewhere, where's Michael Lindsey ;-)

Yeah. Besides I don’t know how those guys in the GPs balance with just one exhaust pipe. Thing has to be 20lbs heavier on the side with the exhaust.
