It's something I've always wanted to do, but never really taken the initiative to do so. After seeing the flaggers fail and could have easily caused an unnecessary injury to Bogle or Cianciarulo, I figure I should try to be the change I wish to see.
How would I go about doing this though? I have no idea. I have checked nationals websites and I don't see anything. For what it's worth, I have over 10 years of officiating experience in varsity high school football and basketball, so that will obviously be an experience that can be applied to being a flagger. I have local race experience, but I've obviously never ridden professionally. Again though, that's experience that can be applied. I'd like to try to help out if I can. Where do I start? Local tracks and work my way up? Try to just call or email the national tracks to see if I can do it there? I know they probably don't get paid much if anything, but if I could make the drive to a national on a free weekend, I'd like to help out if I can. But, I have no clue where to start. Can anyone here help me? I understand this season is probably a wash, but this can be a good reference for me in the future.

I'm not one to normally complain about flaggers, but the weekend was ridiculous. Not a single flag up during the practice pileup until after 3 or 4 guys had gone down???
Then during the race, flaggers were waving the blue flag at guys that were in a position battle! do they just think if someone is trying to pass, wave the blue flag??
All kidding aside, flagging moto makes for long day and they need better trained and paid flaggers.
I'v seen too many unnecessary injuries due to poor flagging.
The Shop
So they didn’t see it.
A flagger is a safety official, is it okay just to hand a guy a event shirt , flag, a hot dog and a soda For lunch and just assume he is able do his job properly?
Should there be paid pro flaggers, or something better than volunteers doing the job?
Bogle throwing his hands up insinuating that someone other than himself was at fault, shows a rush of judgement.
Should there be paid pro flaggers? No.

In this in depth course you will learn such intricate skills as....
1.How to always keep your back to the action no matter what
2. How to NOT wave the flag properly
3. How to move an injured rider in the most inappropriate way
4. When, during a race is the best time to check out the girls in the pits
5. Where to stand so the flag is invisible to oncoming traffic
6. Where the free food is at at every track
An may other valuable skills that will lead to a long career in flagging at any Pro or amateur AMA race.
Yes the AMA/Feld needs paid professional flaggers and officials. At bare minimum they need to be trained and certified before they can flag a Pro race. But hey it's only moto, it's just a backwards sport that cannot move forward or use technology like accurate live timing by sector.
Pit Row
It was a killer good time, and a lot of standing. I scored the best spot at the end of some wicked whoops before the 180 finish line jump. Stalked Gibby. At least 3 times I had to take evasive action with bikes and riders flying, several hard ass crashes on the track right at my feet.
Find out how and get in, you won't regret it.
I did the Austin COTA MotoGP also. 3 long days is too much for free. Good training and benefits but no $. Been there done that, in front of a Big Screen from now on.
I was fighting people for a spot in the shade under the Red Bull tent all damn day...
