So I was watching a mxdn video of the open class and it got me thinking.... Curious to hear what you guys think.

1. If supercross had only one class and it was open to 250s and 450s, what would the top 5 in points be?

2. How would the top 250 guys finish in a race against the 450s or what would the race results look like?

3. Would any 250 riders choose to remain on the 250 instead of the 450?

The top 250 guy, if he remained on a 250, would be fortunate to crack the top 10.

has this question been asked before? if not why dismiss it,..
lap times are similar, but when it comes to racing how does speed through a section change.

at a glance it seems the line choices are similar. the 250's dont arc a corner any wider to make sections so they
dont seem to be at a speed disadvantage through a section. ( how close were times at straight rythm, not counting the top 3 riders in each class)

McGrath invitational 10 years ago about? Didn’t Grant win it on his 250?

I could see Zacko pulling a top 7?ish.. maybe? Outdoors probably a top 5. I'm talking one race here, have no guess on point standings

haven't seen anybody entering a 250 at the monster cup so that should answer #3

Osborne would podium consistently, he has the aggresion to get around the rolling roadblocks (450's).

Throwback to MXON and he was 10th(I think, was somewhere around there) in the MXGP+MX2 race and yes I know SX is different. He is an outstanding rider and we saw that last weekend making it look easy but I don't think he would podium consistently against 450s maybe top 5 every other week. Those 450 have a lot of grunt to get out the corner with little effort to triple in but 250 its going take more energy and to being doing it for a whole 20min just to be battling with riders like Peick.

I don't think the bike is as big of a disadvantage as you'd think, but the top 450 guys are just so much more polished. It'd be very difficult for most top 250 guys to put down clean lap after clean lap, especially if they need to make up a mid pack start. If they could pull a holeshot, I think a couple of them could flirt with a top 5 if they don't make many mistakes.

Ps. Freddie Noren qualified for the 450 main on a 250 in San Diego last year. Pretty impressive for an outdoor guy at the 2nd round of the series (not a depleted field).

IMO it depends on the track. If there isn't a rhythm section where only 450's can hit something than I bet it would be closer than people think.

I think we've seen a few tracks this year where the 450's and 250's were doing the exact same thing. In those cases I wouldn't be surprised to see a 250 guys get a top 5.

Took second to Windham. No big names were there though.
