Take a look at these lap time comparisons.

Of course this has to do with the further deterioration of the track as the night wrapped up, but there is something to the lap times, something to Villopoto's MXDN performance... is the 250F the ultimate MX weapon? For a small, light rider it may be.

I have a newer 450 but I also just got my hands on an 02 426 which I have been riding the wheels off , I got it as a muddy day bike, practice bike, wheelies in the road bike, etc, just to save my newer 450 some abuse and keep it tight for a while

Ya know what? the less powerful , heavier 426 is easier to ride and I can crank out many laps at speed before I make mistakes. My 450 is like a dragster in comparison and I start making mistakes sooner . The 426 chugs well , pulls a tall gear without wheelspin, makes less peak power and I am faster on it for a longer session than my 450 (as long as the track is not too rough)

go figure

Same track, same time I'd take Reed over anyone in the 250F West class. All day everyday.

It was obvious watching it there and how tentative many of guys were that the 450's were a real handful on that particular track, especially given the conditions.

Agree. The track was a lot worse for the MX Main than the lights class too.

The 04 450's would only pull Cornwall (my 2000 426) a bike length or less on the start. All it had was a Pro Circuit pipe and my Pop's little tricks done to it. Are the 08's that much faster than the 04 450's? What year 450 you talking about? Several people that rode Cornwall commented that it hit harder than their 450's. I miss Cornwall.

Yup all the power in the world won't help if you can't hook up.

obviously track deterioration....

cant you just chug a 450 to get less wheel spin in the mud, plus the weight and the wider tire makes me think a 450 is better. though, in the mud, a lighter bike may be better, no way a 2 stroke can compete in the mud with the thumpers, too much wheel spin.

my 450 is a 2006 Yamaha...the hardest hitting version of the newer aluminum framed yamahas. my 426 needs a top end. That may account for some of the difference. The 426 is a friendly bike, easy to ride hard. the 450 is not unfriendly by any means but it doeswear me out a bit faster. I expected the 426 to wear me out since it is a hefty pig even by diesel standards

also, call em crazy but I think my 426 will turn inside my 450 anywhere, any time. My 450 pushes its front end badly unless you sit on the gas cap

I think I was faster at times on my 250f. However, I can now clear a jump at a local track with a click of the throttle on the 450 where I couldn't on my 250f.

Try dropping your forks 1/4 '' from stock that worked on the 250f

I have some 426 parts....a stock lower tripple clamp/with bearings , stock rear shock(off 2002) and some brand new North County Yamaha graphics 2000-2002, i'll trade ya for the 450 since it sucks so bad lol.

factory pros dont have a choice... they ride what the factories tell them to... wasn't it 05 when RC , JBS, and reedy were all on 2 strokes kicking the CRAP out of the diesels?

The only thing funny is that you embarrassed yourself by saying that. You have no clue, do you?

They need to combine the Motocross class and the Lites class into one 40 rider main event. 450 or 250. Run what you want. Bring back the qualifiers to get it down to the 40 gates. That would be awesome to watch for 16 weeks!
