Well my 450 bit the dust so I decided (with the wife's permission of course) to turn to the dark side and went and picked this 2013 Yz 250 up. The guy bought it for his son and his son wasn't quite ready to transition from the 125 so he decided to sell it for $4500.
Only bad thing is it's sprung for a 150lb rider so I'll be getting new springs then it'll be ready for the first ride. I took it for a test ride on the street and holy crap, it feels like it hits harder than the 450 did. The 450 was my first race bike so I'm sure I'm going to have a learning curve to go through. Just excited to get out and ride it. I race hare scrambles so I may end up getting a flywheel weight.
Got a couple of fuel mixture questions. The guy told me to run a 30:1 ratio. From what I can collect, that seems a little on the rich side. What are the pros and cons of running a rich mixture? Is there anything wrong with running it that rich? The previous owner has been running yamalube. Good brand or no? I know that may be suggestive. Just looking for a collective opinion. Also, how necessary is it to run a mix of premium and race fuel? It's been suggested that I mix a gallon of race fuel with 4 gallons of premium. My concern is I don't get to ride as often as I'd like and the race fuel will go bad faster than I can use it.
Hope you guys all had a Merry Christmas!!!

I recommend using 100LL in all two strokes. The YZ's and CR's are borderline on pump gas, and 100LL has the extra octane to keep them from pinging. You can buy 100LL for as little as $4.65/gal in Fort Worth. Plug your zip code into this fuel finder to find the cheapest prices near you. https://www.airnav.com/fuel/local.html
If you keep 100LL stored in an air tight steel container, it will last for years.
Yamalube is good oil. I've used it a lot and never had any problems. Pretty much any of the oils on the market today are good. I always ran it at 40:1 and jetted appropriately.
Lastly, keep your race fuel in a steel container and it will last quite a while.
Cool bike! it will be very different when you jump or come out of corners with it for the first time! I love the 2 strokes but abandoned my 250SX after a few races having been on 4 strokes for so long. Some people adjust really well and I boner aired everything!
The Shop
Yamalube should be fine but I use Motul (just because of a dealer that sells it)
I also got a flywheel weight, works perfectly

I know there are a lot of opinions on this and i am not trying to say i am right and others are wrong, but, there is a shit ton of info out there on all these subjects and none of them are right or wrong!
welcome to the darkside now go out and rip it! remember keep your momentum up and you don't worry about a 450 having more power and all that crap!
