Who else thinks Savatgy could stay an elite racer for the next 6-7 years? He seems to have a Dungey like style in the way he is usually near the front, even though he may not be the fastest guy. I don't remember him having many "yard sale" like crashes for a guy who runs near the front.
Glad he is off to such a good start this year. Love watching how smooth he rides.

I definitely think he can. Hes relatively young, probably went pro when he was 18 or so. He'll be a solid 450 rider IMO. I wonder if this is his last year on a 250, championship or not? Would be cool to see him move up to the 450 class with a factory kawi ride. Definitely a better choice then Justin Hill.

I think he will point out of 250 Supercross class this season if he stays healthy but doesn't win the title. But with the new defend your title rule he would get a 1 year extension of 250 racing if he wins the title. Or they could change the rules again. Who knows?

He will be a solid 450 guy. He's been given a lot of lessons (similar to Dungey's early 250F seasons) and come close to a few championships, if he takes the next step and wins the West he could take that momentum forward.

I wasn't a big fan ,not sure why but I'm coming around this yr , I kinda see him as the underdog and it's hard not to root for the underdog Smile
And some of his interviews have been funny
Like I'm jealous of Plessingers long legs
Lol good stuff
GO Joey !!
You can get this
Imo biggest threat for this title is Mclerath
He is on point this yr

How did Justin Hill get brought into this?

I’m actually rootin for him to win the 250 west title this year. He’s been second fiddle to Webb then Osborne the last couple of years.

What ride will he get in the 450 class ..?
His been on the best team 250 team last few years and seem to have reached his potential...

Don't see him being a contender in the 450... Class
Be solid 2nd guy on a team...think will have similar speed to tickle....

I don't see him among the top 450 guys ever. He should have dominated the 250 class the last years, which he didn't. He's one of the oldest and most experienced guys out there. The 450 class won't be any easier

Maybe there is a better word than elite. He is a consistent top five finisher who gets podiums and wins. He looks to be well prepared this year with his settings and fitness. He also seems to have strengthened his mental game.

Turns 24 next month, well seasoned, groomed by the top people in the sport, good technique. Whatever happens I hope he gets a shot at racing 450s with a strong team.

As much as I want to see him do good on the 450's I dont see it. He has been "the guy" that was supposed to win the championship the last few years and has not been able to produce. I think he will be that occasional podium guy but mostly around 5th-10th guy.

The kid definitely works hard. Always gives props to the GOAT farm.. I'd like to see him get the 250 West Championship.

I mean look at how good Webb was two years ago in the second tier class and now he’s sometimes battling for top tens and often out of it. Not sure I’d bet on Savatgy.

For me it feels like he was branded a top guy as soon as he was signed with PC, because they did not have a dominant rider then (not now either). It isnt till last year he really stepped it up and became a title contender IMO.

Except for AC I am hope i he wins this year. And out of AC and Savatgy I would bet on Joey. When AC is in the top I am just waiting for that small unnecessary crash, but thats another thread

I can see the comparisons to Dungey, expect that Savatgy seems to choke under pressure. Dungey rarely did that. It's definitely not too late for him, but he'll have to step up the mental game to be called "elite."

Wish I could see what you guys are seeing. I just don't see him being able to seal the deal. Definitely don't see the comparisons to Dungey at the moment.

The thing that drives me nuts about Savatgy is his little attitude when he doesn't win. Probably not the way he intends it to come off, but it seems like he feels entitled to the win. I wish he would appreciate being on the podium.

Speaking of "seasoned" Osborne will be 29 this year and hasn't even got to 450's yet.

Osborne and Davalos are both "career" 250 guys. I'm curious to see what Osborne does on a 450 since he's done after this year on 250.

I see more of Davalos in Savatgy. Had opportunities to finish the job but just found a way to make it not happen. Davalos is more guilty of this than Savatgy, but JS isn't far behind.

Here's Joey's interview with RacerX regarding his "entitlement"

Here’s an off-the-wall question: both Johnny O’Mara and Ricky Carmichael have told me that good starts are almost owed to the best racer. In other words, if you’re the best racer out there, that start is owed to you. At first that didn’t make sense to me, but now it sort of does. What do you think?

I definitely feel that way, especially since we put in a lot of work. I know how much work I’ve put in over the off-season with Johnny O’Mara and Ricky Carmichael and Jeanie Carmichael at the track, and we show up on race day and all of it is definitely on my mind. It’s like I deserve to put myself in a position to win, or at least give myself a chance to win. That’s just kind of the mentality that you show up with. You know, you show up knowing you put in as much work, if not more work, than everyone else on the gate, and you deserve to, at least, give yourself a shot at a good start. I definitely agree with that—even if it’s just kind of a mentality thing.

If you want to call Joey an elite 250 rider than thats fine with me. He's sharpend up his skills a fair bit lately and looks good out there so far. As long as we understand that there is a great chasm between a 250 and 450 elite rider.

Oh nice. Thanks for posting that. I think one of dungeys efficiencies was around training. I don’t think he put in any more or less hours than a guy like Alessi. He just trained smarter. I can’t say exactly what that means, but just because you train your ass off doesn’t translate to championships.
