Watching all of the ups and downs of the seasons, between bike failures, sickness, injuries, weather, attitudes, and on and on and on. Just how insanely crazy it was for the two of them to go undefeated in a season, not to mention twice in a row.

Insane!

I wonder what the lap times were then compared to now on the same tracks?

Comparing lap times on the same track on anything but the same day is an exercise in futility.

We are truly lucky that we were able to witness greatness. That type of moto era probably won't be seen again for quite some time....

They are both legends for sure , and could shred the hell out of a track. Hard to compare lap times now days , because just as of 10 years ago , the tracks were not prepped like the way they are now. Need to appreciate what all these guys do / did on the tracks they were given. They couldn't push it any further I think , at least by much.

It's crazy JS was able to go 24-0 without crashing atleast one away. I can see RC doing it, but JS?

We will never see better than those two in that era. Go watch Red Bud 2007.

He didn't need to push it, he was head and shoulders above his competition. RC. Had way harder competition.

He'd have won the championship regardless that year, but that was honestly the weakest field in recent history aside from him. Alessi is decent, but only lasted four rounds. His next closest threat was Cody Cooper. And no disrespect to him, but if that was your biggest threat for a moto win all season, that field was absolutely terrible by professional MX standards. Stewart could ride 80% and win by 20 seconds on most days.

Hard to compare lap times from moto to moto never mind 10 years down the line. Very impressive to go undefeated, something Everts never managed (by one moto)

IMO Carmicheal was one of a kind not even Villopoto could match his level of superiority amongst his peers

I have no doubt if RC was in his prime now he would be waxing the field. RC refused to lose. He was made of rubber and bounced off the ground. If he went down he ran to his bike which is something you rarely see now.

Didn't James almost have a perfect season on his 125 too aside from a bike failure? I could be remembering wrong though.

He won 23/24, but he was way back when he had the bike failure and wouldn't have won it anyway. He had a first turn crash and had crashed again in the moto and then the bike malfunctioned.
