I am looking to buy a KTM 250 2 stroke to get back to riding. I was going to pull the trigger on a left over 2019 until they tried adding $1k in fees. So now I am going to look at the used market and have always been a honda guy but I want a ktm this time.
So I am seeing a 2014 in the $3k range and a 2015 in the $3500 range. What years did the bikes get really good. What's the oldest I need to avoid and are there any significant bike changes that have happened in the last 5 years that I would be better off with that model. For instance, lets say in 2016 they had a big upgrade that makes it work waiting for and paying more?
Thanks,
Gerald

2012-2014 had better forks than 2015-2016.
Only problem is those guys want about what I could have gotten the 2019 left over for..I'll keep my eyes open for a deal!!
2012 - they received the swingarm linkage. This is a very good bike with a great motor and is when most people agree that KTM 250SX surpassed the YZ 250 (this can be debated elsewhere). It comes stock with VForce reed valves, oversized rotor, the very tunable power valve, and two engine mapping settings to choose from. The thing most people complain about is the vibration.
2013-2014 - same bike, but they upgraded the plastics to the newer KTM orange, and I think they did not use the V-Force reed valves (not sure on that one)
2015-2016 - same bike, but I think this is the year they move to 4CS.
2017 - is when they introduced the counterbalance shaft that reduced the vibration in early versions.
Like I said, I'm not sure if I have my details correct. Others can chime in
Only other bike I would consider is a ktm 350 4 stroke. What is the best year of these things?
Same for the Husqvarna TC250's.
Seth and I had 2013 250SX's and got 2017's (after the huge update, all new bike) and the '17 generation bikes are waaaay better.
They won't waste your time, so its worth giving them a call.
