Kids go kart?

Edited Date/Time 3/2/2019 1:02pm
I know I know go karts are lame. My kids just turned 6 and 7, have 2 little atvs LT50 and KFX50, and a PW50 dirtbike. My wife knows nothing about riding, so I dont let the kids ride when Im at work. She is accident prone herself so....just saying lol.

I hopped up the 2 powerwheels to 18 and 24V, so those are fun for them while Im away at least.

Are there any cheaper kids go karts for lawn and dirt trail use that arent complete junk? Ive always assumed they were all junk throw aways, but figured you guys might know. Im looking for low performance, but solid built.

I had a go kart growing up. The good news I learned to work on small engines. I used to rebuild the engine in my bedroom and could do a piston and rod swap and lap the valves in about 20 minutes. The bad news is from my experience and watching others, go karts break... all the time. Frames, engines, clutches etc. These days the Honda clone engines are reliable but you still run into all the other problems with the cart. My son has a TTR 50 now and I’m thinking about getting him a Polaris ACE 150 for Christmas this year. They seem to be reliable from reviews etc run about 25-29 mph I think, but you can electronically control the speed. They’re about 4 grand out the door so a lot more than a go kart.

You can always invest in a quarter midget and see if there's racing locally. Safe sport, as long as you teach your kid the basics of driving.

We've been getting "Biblical" amounts of rain in NorCal this year but when spring finally breaks I'm going to pick up a couple of cheap Chinese Karts for my 7yr olds.

Torn between single or 2 seaters

We raced mopeds, go-peds, go carts, pit bikes and anything else I could make motorized around the block and helped give dirt bikers a bad name.

As both an owner of an indoor karting facility & as someone of whom works in open-wheel racing, Karting is epic! I wish more Moto people were cross-over athletes. I've seen more Moto people transition better back to karts (at our track) than Indycar racers, idk.. Im just saying, if their was a Rolex 24 of Karting, my money is on Me, Renner & Stank Dog, not a WRC / RA or Indy driver lineup haha

We used to race these sprint kart go carts back when I was younger (pic for reference). There was an indoor track called canastota kart speedway. The track was oval and only about 30 yards long, sealed concrete floor was the racing surface and you would slide thru the corners. Watch out for when that talcum powder is put down! Was very entertaining and we all had a great time. I came back years later after a deployment and it had unfortunately closed down. It was far away from town and didn’t get a lot of exposure but they had a ton of money invested into the place. Was very legit.

Lame. I beg to differ. It's actually a place where 2 stroke and 4 stroke people play together
