Anyone have any recommendations for replacement hub? Just hit 20 hours on the bike, 7 hours on sprocket, and checked the bolts prior to this ride. 4 laps in ended up with this.

Faster, Haan, Talon if you got the $$. I've been really happy with my tusk wheelset that was very affordable.

How many torques did you put on the bolts???

Sorry to see the ride ruined by it. I’ve always had good luck with stock hubs. Would be looking at Faster or Haan if it was mine.

I have had my chain tighten up while I was riding. Started off with a perfect adjustment (3-finger rule)
Then later after a couple motos, the chain was EXTREMELY tight when I went to lube the chain.

Turns out the dirt must’ve had a bunch of lime or something that caused it to build up on the sprocket teeth enough to take up the slack on the chain.
I took a razor knife and “carved” off the crap that was stuck to the valley of the teeth and the chain was back to normal. Helped a couple others out that day who were trying to figure out WTF was going on with their chains. It wasn’t even very muddy, it was actually a sandy track.

May or may not pertain to this situation, but it’s something to keep an eye on, if you encounter your chain being ‘all of sudden’ tight....

We are riding at Hollister, I tell my buddy damn ur chain is too tight. No no it's right where manual says. I say ok check out pics of factory bikes they are loose. Not twenty minutes later we are side by side down hill through some rollers, boom his hub breaks. Tried to tell him but u know how that goes

Given the title I was expecting this thread would be filled with slutty KTMs.

KTMs (and Huskies) require more slack in the chain than other bikes. The manual
recommends 55-58mm of play measuring right behind the top of the chain block on the swingarm.

There was plenty of slack, I’ve never had this issue in 20 years.

A hub blowing up with only 20 hours on the bike id be making KTM replace it.

Assuming youre 100% sure its not user error....

Just to make sure, when people say they torque the bolts, i hope you actually mean torquing the nuts on the back side of the sprocket? Any time i replace a sprocket i replace with a new nut and bolts set as the new nuts come with loctite on them. If you torque the bolts while holding the nut stationary, you're going to have problems. You need to hold the bold still and tighten the nut with a closed spanner to mate them together correctly.

Where are the 4 other bolts? Assuming the flange in the chain slider is the same way.

Kinda strange they all sheared off, one actually stretched and turned the only sprocket piece left around the lip.

Obviously one went with the hub flange.

So do you believe that 4 bolts sheared off at one time or did they come loose?

What I was wondering.

It's strange. I can't see 4 bolts shearing, and 4 just falling out seems unlikely as well.

This is payback for not removing the Pittsburgh sticker from the stand.

Has anyone here tested the MooseRacing hubs?
They'r supposed to fit with stock spokes.
I believe the Faster USA hubs work with the OEM spokes, but I don’t know why you’d want to reuse them. The stock spokes stretch ...,

I have seen this happen often on KTM's - Mainly PDS and chain length problem - old KTM hubs where very bad ( bearing as well and issue) had to replace them from new with Talon - Newer hubs look better (bigger bearings) but are they ???

I have them on my bike and they are great. And like you said it all interchanges with stock.

Entirely possible he took those out before taking the photo, but there's no way they all sheared off.
Most likely they were not tight enough, or there was some other issue with the hardware.

The advice above about torquing the nut, not the bolt-head is a "must-situation"...

Do the YZ bolts have the same taper angle as a KTM sprocket? Those YZ bolts and nuts are very good and if the bolts don't work, use the YZ locking nuts with some KTM bolts and blue loc-tite.

How would one actually get a socket with torque wrench on the nut between the hub and spokes... asking for a friend.

You already know the answer to that.... Tongue

It’s physically impossible to get a socket on them, let alone a torque wrench. I can’t even get an open end wrench on most of my bikes.
