I think in some ways, boxing is the closest comparison to motocross. it's not a motorsport so much as an individual sport. 2:00 - 2:27 says it well. McGrath is the one guy who did both; he was the best in technique (in terms of moving the needle) and also the best in statistics (and Supercross reigns)... Bradshaw also deserves more accolades on the scale they outline in the video, for example. nevertheless, I look to boxing as the cousin comparison, because other motorsports are so vastly different than MX, those comparisons are hard to find.

Opinion noted. Adrenaline, exertion, maxed out heart rate, yeah, those are things that compare. Don’t follow additional comparisons.

Floyd Mayweather has made over 700 million in his career . Floyd can fight with just his hands , McGrath,RC, RV ,RD, Hannah,Johnson etc all had to have top notch bikes and mechanics to make them work and they didn't and or couldnt work on their own bikes, Floyd had a trainer and corner men to hold a spit bucket. So NO not even close, and a lame comparison at best.

I once compared MX with MMA Title fights in a column. 5x5 minutes that is about 25 minutes. Going full out fighting against your opponent but also against yourself and the pain you feel.

I just thought it was interesting that between the 2:00 - 2:27 mark they're explaining two ways of measuring success; that there is a difference between beng the "best" and the "greatest". I could be wrong but it seems like this sport's riders don't venerate past racers as well as other sports. Bradshaw would be an example of someone who was one of the best, but didn't have the records (championships) to be seen as one of the greatest.

Anyway, maybe it didn't make sense. I just think it's cool when there's opportunity for a racer to be remembered as one of the very best, even if the stats didn't back it up.

And a break every 5 minutes. Not to mention, your pace can always change depending on how aggressive your opponent is or what his fighting style is. In a race, you are going flat out the whole time. In a battle, another riders pace can affect your pace, but that's just the extra 1%. In MMA, you might get stuck with Machida, and hardly break a sweat. You might get flash KO'd in the later rounds or the first round. Lol

I agree Matti. You have to be super fit in both to be able to compete for 25min , or 30+2.

I don't think MX is much like boxing at all. MX is much more like horse racing than it is boxing. You have the trainers, the exertion by the horse, the strategy of the jockeys. Just with more laps and jumps, so maybe the steeple chase is the best comparison for mx and regular track betting races being like supercross. Then you have the equestrian events that are more like freestyle. Also don't forget the patterned outfits and numbers.
