I guess it doesn't really matter but I refuse to call this event the Motocross of Nations. Call me old school but this event shall be known as the Motocross des Nations to me

Yep. You’re not wrong...mxdn is the “proper” name, but I personally say mxon cuz it rolls off the tongue easier. I just don’t get the constant uproar when it means the same thing

Click the link below. The FIM was founded in Paris, France on December 21st 1904 and it governs 113 national motorcycle federations. Since it was founded in France it only makes sense that all the legal documents were filed/published in their native language at the time and not English. That's why it was "des" and not "of".

Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme otherwise known as International Motorcycling Federation.

That said in 2004 it was officially anglicized to "of" when Youthstream got the promotional right to the World Motocross Grand Prix.

Sure but then you can't pronounce "nations" like an English speaker either. Say de na-si-oon at the track and see the looks you get.

The only reason you should use DES is that this Luongo mofu changed it into OF without a freaking reason. All that fat Italian fuck does is wrecking the motocross.
