Well independant testing has shown that wearing those noncompliant numbers gives you a 1 second per lap advantage. This cheating needs to be stopped asap.

I did it to ask a simple question. If a privateer were to wear a similar gear would he be denied? I own a graphic company. Should one of my riders choose to run something like this would they be told no?

We already know what the answer would be. The point being is that everyone should be held to the same standards

It never should have been a rule in the first place. I say they continue to ignore it. That gear was sick!

He could be protested and DQ'd for his number size on the front plate unless they changed the rules for 18....... I know when I did PC's graphics there wasn't a chance in hell we weren't playing on the safe side. There are some fickle people out there when it comes down to race wins and championships.

If it’s a privateer yes there would be a issue. Similar to number size on the number plates. Try fitting a 3 digit 6inch tall number on the front or 5.5 tall number on the side plates of some of these new bikes. A few years ago when Cody Gragg was racing outdoors i made his front numbers a quarter inch too short. I had to make him a new one for next week since they measured the front plate. But yet Red Bull ktm was running numbers about a inch too short the entire year.

They certainly wouldn't be punished. If anything, they may ask them to conform to the uniform regulations to avoid being punished next time. How do you know they didn't do this to Marvin?

The jersey goes through tech with the mechanic and bike before the event. If it was approved then, there is no ground for DQ.

According to the AMA Rulebook, the gear that Marvin was running in Anaheim should be illegal for competition (with the exception of the Las Vegas round)...

The Star Racing riders and Cooper Webb ran the gear during qualifying, but changed for the night show. What is everyone's opinion concerning this? If a privateer were to wear a similar gear, how do you think the AMA would react?

Yaa its a dumb rule for sure. But if its a rule shouldnt the ama follow their rulebook and do something about it? Lol of course the ama wont follow their own rules, but instead make up rules on the spot.

At one point the FIM dispensed with the rule that required GP riders to have race numbers on the side of the bikes to make way for more advertising space but I think it only lasted a season.

I was at the track and watched him during the day. (Practice) I did notice when his back was hit by the sun, that it was reflecting pretty damn bright, Night not so bad. Looks good, but I wonder if it bothers any of the riders during timed practice????

Someone needs to make a name/number combo that reflects.

Old rule written before transponders. They don’t need your name or number on the shirt anymore, the transponder tells them everything they need to know.

What if they still score by hand as a back up?

I think JTs mom does this. Or did.
They used to have several people do it. One of my college buddy’s back in the day is now VP of merchandising at Feld and when he was interning with the AMA in the 90’s, he’d get me up in the scoring booth to help score. We never looked at the riders shirts, only the number plates. Of course now those are getting smaller every year too.

Rules are rules...but the gold on black looks like shit. Needs some kind of outline...plus it look like some crap a dance mom would wear.
