Silly rule but interesting post. What if Jeff Alessi's laser had rebounded off of his numbers?

According to the AMA Rulebook, the gear that Marvin was running in Anaheim should be illegal for competition (with the exception of the Las Vegas round)...

The Star Racing riders and Cooper Webb ran the gear during qualifying, but changed for the night show. What is everyone's opinion concerning this? If a privateer were to wear a similar gear, how do you think the AMA would react?

Rules are rules...but the gold on black looks like shit. Needs some kind of outline...plus it look like some crap a dance mom would wear.
I actually looked pretty cool in person.

Can anyone confirm if these rules apply to supercross as an FIM series?

It’s important because rules need to be accurate an enforced across the rule book, otherwise you create gray areas that come down to judgement calls from the officiating team and nobody is happy when that happens. If there’s rules on the book that aren’t enforced and at the same time riders are given penalties for things that aren’t in the rule book, then there’s no point having rules and you end up with a series that’s officiated based on the whims of the people in the sanctioning body.

If it’s against the rules, enforce the rule or eliminate the rule.

Maybe the rule is to identify the rider, not score the bike. Was that really Marvin? Maybe Marvin is injured and they slipped Dungry in there. Without an outline on the number a 5 can look like a 25.

I could see someone getting protested at Loretta’s for something like this and it being upheld with a fat DQ.

Rules are rules....

Helmet & jersey go through tech inspection and get approved by AMA official along with the bike

It's obvious the AMA showed some discretion in Marv's case which they are able to do.

What would be the appropriate penalty for a uniform violation in this case if they enforced it?

Most likely fine I'd say.

It's from the Supercross rule book. It's an actual, current rule for that series.

It may seem silly, and I agree that there's no way that Musquin should be penalized in any way that affects the championship point standings, but it is the rule.

That being said, I could see a small fine if the sanctioning body tells him not to do it again but he did.......

This is the mindset that got us 450cc 4-strokes racing against 250cc 2-strokes......... regulation and changing of dumb rules is very important to our sport's growth.

Old rule written before transponders. They don’t need your name or number on the shirt anymore, the transponder tells them everything they need to know.
Scoring isn't the only issue.

Feld is still trying to sell Supercross to the fans. Having bold names and numbers on the back, helps fans identify riders (especially on TV). If the riders go too crazy with their designs, it can be harder for fans to identify the riders.

People make fun of the NFL for their extreme rules about uniforms. But I believe good uniforms are a factor in the success of the NFL.

You all are expecting the AMA to follow their own rulebook.
