If we are to believe that both ET and MM have had a failure this year, wouldn't it be now considered standard equipment? I don't see one today on MM or TC's bikes?

I got my hands on one of the Clutch master cylinder guards that were made for the KTM team. I sold my KTM shortly after and have no use for it. They had made both clutch and brake guards.

If anyone is interested, it's for sale. $45.00

So if this is a real threat, and Red Bud had rocks, why didn't KTM (and everyone) run them or am I missing something?
It seems like these will have to become std. equipment from here on.

It really doesn't appear to provide adequate coverage?

It really only needs to cover the area where the piston is. The rest is just the reservoir.

Are you doubting that a rock can make a dent in soft metal big enough to affect the operation or that they use a guard?

My doubt comes from my skeptical nature that this type of failure is almost unheard of since the advent of disc brakes in the '80's, and yet it has happened to the points leading guys 3 times in less than a year? Yes I would like some additional knowledge on this "phenomenon".

Assuming this is a fact, there should be manufacturer's scrambling to provide one for every bike ever made with an exposed reservoir, talk about liability... seriously though I think all of our lives are in danger and I am trying to provide a public service by creating awareness. Something like this makes the consequences of loose sprocket bolts pale by comparison.

I have been on the receiving end of inadvertent front brake application and it takes a while to heal Sad

Is a master cylinder failure the new electrical problem, causing DNF's.

Give me a bit to finish up Pit Bits. There were a variety of new protectors this weekend on the Husky and KTM bikes.

Not sure why they weren't running these on their bikes...

Now we are talking serious rock stoppers there. The next obvious question, how do rocks know to hit the cylinder and not your fingers?

I asked if any photogs caught a picture of Eli's master cylinder after his incident but no reply. That is exactly the sort of picture I would be interested in seeing rather than a million shots of a random rider over a random jump or railing a corner. Those are cool but a dime a dozen really....

I did see a photo of it, bit it was amazing how little damage you could actually see from the outside. There are only a couple thousandths clearance on the barrel inside, and the rock used that up, plus a little.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled random riders...or you can check out Pit Bits. Smile
