Matthes Memorail Nets Location?

Why do they have the nets on berms that are 75 feet away from the stadium wall? A bike couldn’t fly into the stands going 4th gear at that distance away. I get it for the berms that butt up against the stadium walls in crammed areas but seems unnecessary for being so far away.
