We lost Mike 9 years ago today. Seems like yesterday I was watching him jump the lagoon on MTV during spring break or when he jumped his parents house!.. Rest In Peace Cinq.. You are missed!!

Saw his sister's post yesterday on FB. I remember always being a fan of his growing up. I'll always remember that CR250 in the picture you posted. RIP Cinq

I never knew he tried to backflip specially after his horrific crash, pretty cool (skip to 8:00 minute)

They don't come much smoother than Cinq. Dude could ride the hell out of a motorcycle.

That guy had so much skill and style... sucks that he's gone. On a side note, I've been looking for 35/01 on DVD for a minute!

Just saw his sister posted that her granddaughter(I think) was born less than an hour and a half ago. What a blessing on such a hard day.

Yeah Cinq was one of those guys I loved watching ride in video parts. Smooth style, like butter.

Never have been a fan of freestyle but Cinq was the guy with the best style. I remember watching Crusty Demons back in the day and thought he was the best. RIP brother.

Cinq had two of the most impressive jumps from the early days of freestyle, when guys would jump stuff (before ramps were the norm) no matter how sketchy. Huge lips, small landings with tight transitions, etc.

(1) That MASSIVE double/double that was built at Racetown 395 and (2) the dock he jumped over down in Mexico. I think it was an MTV spring break thing.

I looked real quick on YouTube but couldn’t find them.

Sadly, that massive double double that he crashed on is what ended his career and ruined his life.

It can happen to anyone. I love watching the skills that guys like him show jumping crazy stuff but it can go bad so easily, godspeed Mike. I had a life changing injury this year and I get chills now watching stuff that used to get me pumped up to ride. That insane double double could have easily just been another segment in a freestyle video but a slight miscalculation pretty much cost this poor guy his life. He went from on top of the world to his living hell in an instant.

"He went from on top of the world to his living hell in an instant."

a heartbreaking tragedy!

back in the day as a child I used to have heroes and Cinq was definitely one of them. Wrathchild, Chapter One, MotoXXX, the MTV stuff, Shift commercials and photos in catalogues… I soaked up everything! Always wanted to be like him, young, seemingly rich, endless skilled, big house in socal. starring at the poster of the jump over his house hanging on the wall of my nursery was an everyday thang.

Saw him ride once at the now defunct VMC raceway in Victorville, first time I saw anyone get "Big air" in person. We were camped near there so I took the wife and kids on a ride to check out the track. They had this massive "6 pack" I think they called it ? Anyway we're sitting by these things thinking there's no way.... then hear a bike start up, next thing we know we looked up and there's some guy upside down, sideways panic revving 30 feet over our heads, my wife actually screamed because it scared the shit out of her haha. It was Cinqmars, him and Shae Bentley were taking turns going back and forth doing the biggest jumps we'd ever seen. Bummer he's gone. RIP

Mike was my favorite freestyle rider outside of TP. Loved his jumps.

I grew up in Apple Valley. Mike was a few years older and everyone looked up to him. His parents house was only about a mile away from high school. We got to watch Mike jump at his parents house, and jump at racetown (it was called sunrise back then). VMC was by far my favorite local track. Id be there every weekend that I could, first guy out in the morning on my 125. When Mike or some of the big names would show up, all us locals would just pull off and watch. Cinq was unreal. He jumped higher and further than anyone.

He was also super nice to everyone. He always had that style everyone wanted to emulate on and off the track. He was our hometown hero, and watching chrome and crusty and seeing him in it was unreal. Still sad over his crash, and passing away.

Was VMC the old Stoddard Wells track? I remember riding Stoddard Wells quite a few times.

I recognize some of those spots from Adventures of Twitch and Scummy. Didn't know some of those places have been around that long! Cinq's style was ahead of everyone else in this video. It's crazy!

yes it was. was right next to the 15 freeway. Such a bummer it got shut down. It was prepped way better than comp edge and racetown generally speaking.

I remember the very first race there. I was riding 60 beginner and it was a CMC race. Pretty sure it was my first race on my 60 as well. I was so nervous I went through the only roll of paper towels my dad brought for out goggles and all of that. He was pretty upset but laughed at the same time. I miss that place!
