We use goal zero generators and the Mr heater mentioned above.

Go to youtube and there's a ton of videos on van builds. They talk about solar set ups, winter camping, water solutions...you name it.

Then be prepared to have your Youtube homepage to be nothing but #vanlife people. haha

If you purchase a 2004-2006 Mercedes T1N it comes with a heater that you can hit rest in after you turn off the van and it heats the van for several hours off of a mini jet engine ran off of deisel, and it warms the block, if your driving a sprinter van and its not a 2006 i feel sorry for you, they mastered it in 2006 and realized they were too good and messed them more and more every year after.

Me Buddy heaters are indoor safe. You can put a carbon detector in the van to be safe.

My friends and I have been using Mr Buddy for years.

I like the webasto copies. Had one in a high top sprinter van and the thing would sip diesel and make ya sweat. ~10 hours per gallon.

They are about $120 bucks on amazon. Super easy to install. Here is a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YthaCqkMOs

Truth. I follow several van-life mountain bikers and my YouTube feed is full of van life videos. I know more about van life that I should.

The heater buddies are cheap and work great. That's what I use. I also have a 12v electric blanket but it shuts down after 45 min and it doesn't help when you have to roll out of the bed to a freezing van.

I ended up getting a " Wave 3 heater ". Everything I read and watched kind of stated that they were safer then the Mr buddy heaters. Just burn more efficient. It definitely doesn't just heat my van up in a few minutes though , as it needs to run about 20 mins. I went and camped out of my van for a 3 day / 2 night stay down at the coast on Halloween weekend for crabbing and fishing , and the Wave 3 worked really good. It got down to 34 degrees at night , and kept me nice and toasty. The problem with propane heat is the moisture it creates inside. I think this spring / summer I'm going to look into a nice little 2200 generator and just use electric for heat and other things.
