Moto van pic's

Thinking of getting a moto van, for those who have one, can you post pic's of the inside things your have done to better the van for moto? Any tricks or things I should know before begining my search for one?

I know I prolly need a 3/4 ton and one with side doors and not a slider... what else?

Well...I have no pics of the inside because she's just an empty shell with a power inverter installed. But I just picked up my new ( new to me ) motovan last week. Chevy express extended cargo van G3500. This sucker drives sooo nice! Takes a bigger area to turn it around though compared to my Ford E350 I have. Other than that.....I'll be looking for some simple ideas as well on setting this thing up. Not sure exactly how I want to just yet.

BTW....that stupid ladder rack is coming off as soon as I can get it off!

Keep it. Use it as the start of a frame for a watch deck.

Yeah I did search before posting and did find a couple threads with some good info, but no pic's. For instance, that;s how I knew I needed a 3/4 ton and one with side doors and not a slider...

jeffro, let me know how that thing does in all aspects compared to your Ford van... I am not set in stone which van I will look at yet as I am in research mode!

GMC Savanna 3500 extended passenger van with rear air and heat. 6.0 engine. I left one seat for my kids to sit in with factory mounting and seat belts, which was important to me. It also tows our 27 ft camper pretty well. Many times I haul two big bikes and two small bikes as well as all our gear, and bicycles even with one bench seat installed in the rear. I stripped the rear interior and trim.

I am thinking about getting one to tow with, right now my 2014 silverado gets almost 10mpg towing my 30ft toyhauler, just curious what you are getting.

I get about 9 towing. I get about 14 unloaded. Sick Wish it was a Duramax van.

when ever there is a moto van thread I save the pics, I will see if I can find them on my hard drive and post them up,there are some cool set ups.

That. 6.0 will get it done.. The Chevy is e best moto van when looking at new ones.. Doesn't look like you can get 4x4 in the 3500 which kinda sucks..

I have been looking on craigslist for vans early 90's van. to turn in to a moto van, also i wouldn't care if it got scratched. but it seems like all the ones ive seen on craigslist are either blowned up, or tranny is gone. But anyway i like yalls van post some pics from the inside.
also here in North Carolina if you have a van or truck that was made before 95 or 96, you don't have to get it inspected every year.

96 e150 heavy, f250 suspension, brakes 8 lug ect.. 300ci inline 6 with 262k runs like a top. I wish I would of got an extended though, I have bench seat and divider can fit 3 big bikes or 2 big and 2 small. Work in progress.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. Some pretty good idea's here. Thanks for all the info from everyone so far, keep them coming.

I am a little surprised at the fuel mileage of these vans. Seems like they would do a little better, especially the diesels.

Do you guys think the 1990's van does better then today's emission controlled stuff?

Jeffro, your concerns are very valid. In 2006,2007,2008 when we had our trailer at nearly every national as a vendor, we encountered that problem often. We had some great parking spots on vendors row and had a large platform on top of the trailer. It was pretty common to find people we didn't know on top of our trailer because it was a good point to watch from. Funny thing......it NEVER happened at LL. Good folks.

I know a few guys that post here witnessed it first hand. More than a few times I would walk up and ask" who are you ? who allowed you up there ?" ......More than a few times I heard " dude....it;'s all good....just checkin out the racing". That is fine until someone falls off. Not nearly so funny then.

If you do the platform, get a folding lockable ladder system. Don't make it easy to use.

Pretty expensive for just a moto van, but Chevy offers the 6.6L V8 duramax in the Express now.

I believe its around 45K for the 3500 extended van.

We have a couple at my work and they are bad ass.

I just finished my 2008 e250 standard length van. I put a twin bed in it and I am able to fit my bike beside it.
The bed is for the week long nationals and it just comes out for regular race days.i can also fit my 55 gallon water barrel and pressure washer in the van.The bed also is used as a storage shelf for long trips.

I just bought a 2000 model GMC Savana 2500 for next to nothing. It had a bad fuel pump and the starter was grinding. I replaced both and it literally took out the new starter in about 20 minutes. I've checked clearances to see if it needs shimmed but seems good there, flywheel is in good shape etc.

Seems to me like the starter is flexing and binding, I know some older ones had brackets on the rear of the starter for support but I can't find that these later GMC's should have one. I have another new starter here but I'm afraid to mess it up also.

I'm definitely looking for a van. No more pick ups w/ bikes & gear in the back for us. Sad

The new Dodge Ram Promaster (see Avatar) have gotten my attention. They are FWD which makes the floor ultra low. Also they come in 3 lengths and two roof heights. Gas and diesel engines are available. Smile
