Spokane, WA July 23, 2013 – MotoConcepts team owner, Mike Genova has issued the following statement regarding the laser pen incident that occurred at Washougal National involving Jeff Alessi.

“I am saddened and disappointed by the conduct of Jeff Alessi at the Washougal race this past weekend. Through thorough investigation, MX Sports was able to conclude that Jeff Alessi is guilty of the allegations brought against him regarding possession and use of a laser pen during the parade lap and prior to the start of the first 450 moto. While Jeff is not an employee of, or contracted with MCR in any way, his actions became a direct reflection on the team. As owner of MCR, I offer my sincere condolences to Malcolm Stewart and Ryan Villopoto for Jeff’s unethical and unacceptable actions all while wearing an MCR shirt. Though Mike Alessi, Tony Alessi nor myself were involved with, or had any knowledge of Jeff’s planned use of the laser pen or his intentions , as a team we offer our deepest regrets and apologies to all those tied to this incident.”

“Regarding Tony Alessi’s conduct this weekend, MCR is responsible for his actions while representing the team. I do not support or condone Tony’s behavior or words and I take full responsibility and ownership of the situation. Internal penalties have been imposed by MCR resulting in Tony’s suspension for the remainder of the outdoor motocross series in conjunction with the suspension from MX Sports. While I am upset and unhappy with Tony’s conduct, I believe Tony and company to be good people who made poor choices.”

“In effort to continue supporting MX Sports, MCR sponsors and fans, MCR will fulfill its commitment to attend all of the remaining 2013 motocross races. Unfortunately, due to a prior commitment I will not be attending this weekend’s Spring Creek National in Millville, MN.

“We hope Mike Alessi and MCR fans will continue to support the team in the future.
Thank you,

Mike Genova

Taking the high road and not dragging Mike Alessi down is a good thing.

This statement by Mike Genova is good thing. It is much more in keeping with what I would expect from him based on his past actions. It would have been much better if this had been issued on Sunday morning though.

Hope this whole incident doesn't cause this team to fold or any of Mike Genova's companies to go out of business.

Nothing about the future of the team? Maybe this is the last year of MCR? (Pure speculation...obviously.)

At least Mike gets to race, that's what counts. Neither he, nor MCR should be out of the series over the foolish actions of a stupid young man. Brother or otherwise. Good riddance to both Tony and Jeff. I guess the only question is, which of the two really needs to grow up the most?

Not sure there is an easy answer to whether Tony if Jeff needs to grow up most.

I wonder what the change of heart is. He seemed to defend Tony on the PulpMx interview. I'm glad he changed his mind and is allowing Mike to finish the season at least.

At least Jeff has a valid excuse, he's young. What the hell does Tony use? The man has some serious problems, time to look in the mirror and accept he needs help. Serious help. Geez.

This could be a good thing for Mike Alessi in the long run. It gives him a chance to see that he can perform just fine come race day without dear old dad there to micromanage every last detail. And it might just give him the perspective that it really is time to cut the cord.

I can't help but wonder how Mike would have fared under Roger D's guidance at both Team Suzuki and KTM without Tony. He may have had a number one plate on the wall.

But, with Genova not going to Millville and Tony suspended....who is going to be pinch hitting as MCR Team Manager this weekend??

Where's Larry Brooks???

Just kidding. It does look like it's all going to work out. No word on the penalties and even with all the apologizing going around I'd like to see them stay as written. The penalty was fair and still must be served.

Mikey was on FIRE before he hurt his knee while on the Suzuki. He was flying at Freestone that year in the heat.

I honestly think if not for the knee thing, he had a shot at the #1 plate that year.

After hearing and reading all the comments of the MCR team as a whole, and I am glad they put this out, they have too .. I still have a sneaking suspiscion they or someone knew (Tony) Jeff was in possesion and goofing around with the pen at the start... So Jeff walks out of the team rig decked out with shirt, head set, dads all access credentials and heads way off over into the trees behind all other teams that are watching the start....but nobody from MCR noticed him???.... c'mon

once the gate drops at Milli Vanilli on Saturday, the focus will be back on the top guys of MX where it should be...not the Alessi circus..enjoy watching the races from the couch Tony and I wouldnt be suprised that before the year is over, someone will see Tony at the track peaking his head out of the Alessi motorhome (not MCR) but the Alessi coach.. ......

Good Luck Mike!
Your bro and dad will be OK. Don't hold back. Just in case you're reading this I'll say a few things more.

Go out there and win!
Move forward every minute of every moto!
Pass everyone you can, and don't give anyone a position for free. I don't care if they're the only ones in the title chase. If they want your position, they'll have to earn it. That includes RV, RD, and JS.
Find that extra half second or so a lap. It's there somewhere. You just have to find it.
Ride with everything you have every minute of every race. You can rest afterwards. Concentration is key.

to me, MCR suspending Tony (separate from mxsports suspension) was the smartest move i've seen all week/end...now someone is thinking company/team over individual bullshit (tony being a moran).

Smart move Genova! this event will stick to TA, hopefully it won't stick to MCR.

Cool news for Mike. It would be awesome to see him nab a podium at Millville. Hope all this has not fried him mentally.

although they may have had to get the proper advise from some outside source with a brain. I commend them for taking that advice and doing the right things. Parking mike for the rest of the season would have only furthered the hate. so good job on that because giving him the benefit of the doubt having nothing to do with it, that would have been messed up to not be able to race.

It will only stick to MCR if TA is allowed back...ever.
