Sucks I can no longer ride because I'd definitely build one of those.
That was the year I got into the sport and I used to just drool over that bike at the dealers and in the mags. Something about that plastic was so dang cool and of course mc was on one so made me like it even more!

IMO the 01 CR250 is my favorite overall. I love the 05 CRF450, 96 CR250 and 17 CRF450 but the 01 CR250 had be drooling back...

His San Diego 4th was on the 450Smile

Great looking bike regardless. Looked even better with the King riding it

Then after sitting on their asses for the next several years, along comes the 78 (early/ mid 77 as there was no 77 CR250) CR250, a true works replica. However, my bias shows again, the unobtanium works RC’s were true hand built works of art. 78 RC 500 here, 208 pounds (one day I will weigh it and see how much they lied), 62 hp, 450cc. The end of the twin shock era and air cooled engines were on the way out. There was something great about the simplicity of the machines back then even if they may not have been all that great. It was a good time in the sport.

One extremely tricked out 1980 production CR250 that I recently acquired from some number 29 guy here in Texas.

You have an AMAZING meticulous collection of CR's there Newmann! All three you posted are standouts of the air cooled era for sure. Cool point you brought up on your RC500 on the weight...so please let us know if you put it on the scale some day. I would bet it is very close to what Honda claimed, as I remember watching a video from the 1982 Trophy Des Nations when they had Johnny O's RC500 on the scale in tech inspections, and they were saying it was too light and they had to add weight to it! I have some question on your RC500....curious if the Fox Air Shocks were used on all of the RC500's back in '78? Or where they a rider preference over spring shocks? Are they lighter or heavier? Have you actually rode that bike? If so, what is the power like?

For me this is easily the greatest Honda 250 2-stroke of all time.. and only one proto-type machine ever existed. A lot of people have stuck the piston port engine into a 3rd gen frame, but this one was all works and used the 2nd gen plastic.

Here are two of my CR250's taking inspiration from what I thought were the coolest Honda factory bikes of all time;

I'm a fan of the 88 89 blood red Hondas. All of them are beautiful to me though

Broke my arm one week before trading in my ‘94 and picking one of those up in late ‘95. Got to sit and look at it in my garage for 12 weeks after doing the pre-ride prep. Cast came off at the end and the doctor said “I’d like for you to wait 3-4 weeks before riding.”
“Yep, sure thing doc, you got it.”

Next day...

While I love the looks of the 1996 CR250................... im 51% in favor of the 1995 being the best looking CR250 and while the 1996 has the exact same plastic shape, the 95 does edge it out for me

Going as just the look of the CR250 my list looks a lil' somethin like this:

1995 - all of my first 3 here 95, 96 are interchangeable for the podium but the 95 just edges them out
1993 - had a 93......one day I will have a 95 and its going to get the fill restoration to the OEM look, engine work, cone pipe,
1996
2002/2004 - had the 02
1991
1997 - had a 97
1989/1988
1987 - had an 87

Not too horrible-looking when new. But within a few months, they all faded to a Salmon/Paté color scheme.
