So Freecaster has become Payperviewcaster.
After announcing they will be charging for the UCI Downhill and 4X events, Freecaster will be charging 2 Euros per GP starting with Portugal.
Not a crazy price for sure, would come to 30 Euros for a season.

But for that price I want quality broadcast and not a buffering festival, and maybe they can get some cool commentators.

Service blows anyway. The old media zone was well worth the price for the GPs. I've never been able to watch anything on freecaster bacause my "high speed" is not fast enough and it never gets past the buffer. I've gone from watching all of the GPs to watching none. BOO!

I still cant get it to work smoothly here in Australia. Ive had my service provider iinet look into but they didn't find me a solution. Too much buffering for me. Id love to get into the GP's but I cant justify paying thats for sure knowing how it will look. Id pay for US Nationals though if thats what it took to see the second moto online too. They played smoothly for me last year. Very impressed.

This is a pro sport bro.

We don't need to be paying the athletes.

Looks like I'll have to start capturing them and then putting them up for DL so people dont have to pay. It's BS to have to pay for this low quality vid. I pay for MotoGP but it's in HD and the video is second to none.

Will they charge for the live stream only or will you have to pay to watch the replay videos on the site also?

Coincidence?

USGP comes about and Freecaster no longer Free.

I watched a couple last year and only had a buffering issue a couple of times, but the vid quality was below par so I didn't watch any others. Now to have pay for the low quality that I'm really not into much? Not a chance.

I think there will be a lot of CODE SHARING.

I heard a rumour midway through last season that Freecaster were struggling. I think they charge quite a bit to advertise and weren't getting enough to justify their service. Its a great idea in theory but no good if they don't make money. I can handle $2.50 but It aint the best picture without a decent computer. I watched 1 GP in Australia and the quality was worse too. I was surprised to see them back for 2010 given what I heard but I guess it all makes sense now they're charging. Can't really call it Freecaster anymore though huh. I hope they still archive them the day after for free though.

Can anyone direct me to a link where this information about charging is ?

I don't see it on their home page.

The quality has always been great for me. I hope they come up w/some kind of package like media zone. I think Media Zone was $25 for the season w/the mxdn included in the price. I hope it's close to that.. I pay $40 for sx live which is only audio so they won't have a hard time getting people $30-$40 for video. It sucks but whatever I'll pay if I have too.

I've never had any problems with the image quality in the streams, it's kind of like before slicknick went to HD with his AMA rips to me, which obviously was watchable. Of course, quality of streams can vary depending on the quality of your connection, but I've at least never had any problems with the quality, nor have I had any problems with buffering.

If it's still free via Red Bull's website then I'll be pumped, if it doesn't hold and it'll be pay per view all over the place I'm still going to be content with the situation. 2€ isn't the end of the world to me, and I'm a pretty poor bastard right now even, I'm just glad that there is a stream to watch on the interwebs and that it's not restricted to some crummy channel on TV that you may or may not have access to.
