Loved my 2016 KTM SFX450FE but after both of my buddy's at the track broke the frame on there's Ktm's 16 - 17 bikes and one of them had gnar gnar get of on landing of jump because of that I did not trusted mine anymore and I sold it last Friday. So back to blue after couple years . I had my 2015 YZ450F and I loved the bike but then I had that crazy idea to buy Ktm , but that is all in past. Anyway I pick up new 2018 YZ450F yesterday and so far I am very impressed with the bike , the way is engineered and looks bad ass. I will do some work on it today and tomorrow and I can't wait to ride it on Thursday. Thanks to Elli at WHEELS IN MOTION for great deal.

Congratulations! Great looking bike for sure.

I had the chance to ride one in the woods recently and it felt super comfortable, and that suspension is amazing!

I’m in the same boat, I have a 2016 factory edition for sale and looking at getting a new Yamaha 450, I’ve never owned one though. They seem good now, power and suspension are awesome from what I’ve heard.

Not so sure about 17-18 YZ's but there is a history of Yamaha frames cracking to back from 2007 to 2016. Along with a tough shit warranty. At least KTM will most likely warranty a frame. Good luck.

Of every person I have heard about that had the cracking issue on the 14 plus bikes by the steering stem, Yamaha replaced them all. One guy twice.

JEALOUS! Congrats.
Me, too, wants a 450 even if only for the first half of my racing season. The 250f is getting long in tooth.

Doesn't matter if they warranty it when you have a broken neck. Sounds like his buddies frame didn't just crack.

For sure man . When u see that on the internet is one thing but when that happens to your best friend right next to u that is scary. After that we checked my other friends 16 Ktm and it was ready to go also , cracked in several places and he is only 170 pounds vet rider. I checked mine and looked ok butI was done with Ktm at that poin.

This is my buddy's frame at 65 hrs 2017 450sxf vet rider.

How many hours were on these bikes?? Did you buddies both purchase from the same dealer??? Would love to hear what the dealer / KTM says about it

His bike the 2017is at the dealership now waiting for somebody from Ktm to be inspected. Estimate from the dealership for repair is 9k so the bike is total.

So how does it ride?

I am very curious about the engine braking compared to the 2015. Apparently the 2018 is more free flowing like a CRF. Is this true? My friend has a 15 and I like everything about it with the exception of engine braking. Would like to get one but I do not do well with engine braking hence why I have been on CRF's since 2006.

Thanks in advance.

I took it out yesterday but just to broke it in . I Just did two sessions on wet track , not really real riding on the main track in milestone. The engine has definitely less engine braking than the 15 , engine feels crisp and powerful sort of linear power withe the stock map . The gearing is too tall, I all ready purchased 49 t rear sprocket for the next ride .

I would really like to know what the dealership and KTM are saying about those bikes that broke.

BTW - congrats on the new ride, can't go wrong with a Yamaha.
