Raw speed I give the edge to Herlings but dam that Prado is making it look easy and so far seems less injury prone.

On a 450? On a 250? Herlings would decimate Prado on a track like this weekend (lommel). Herlings won with over a minute over febvre and anstie last year at lommel. And those two won motos this weekend. And they were both faster than Prado this weekend. Keep in mind that the track is way rougher when the 450s race, they were still faster than Prado.

Prado is for sure going to be good on a 450. But i dont think he can win against the top dogs in mxgp his first year.

I don’t think anyone really knows exactly how fast Prado is as I don’t think he really ever has to show it. That will surely change next year but at the moment he makes everything look so easy. He is a talent in the same bracket as Herlings for sure and his MX2 career is equally as dominant. But until he takes that onto a 450 and dominates in the same way there, I don’t think you can say he’s better than Herlings

I like the fact that Prado isn't a sandbager,
The team is obviously excellent. It's clear they'll do the same with Vialle as they did with Prado. It's like watching history repeating

Plus Prado was no way near lapping the whole field like Herlings nearly did at Lierop in 2012.

The only thing that is clear to me that Prado is racing a lot smarter in terms of taking risks. Herlings keeps on pushing even though he has a 1 minute gap. Prado does just enough to keep a comfortable cushion and controls it from there.
That seriously reduces the chances of big injuries.

If i would have to bet i'd put money on Prado winning multiple MXGP championships. I think he has the talent and mindset for it. But we have to wait and see, he hasn't shown he actually can.

but maybe because he has his ego in check and looks at the bigger picture. He's becoming a very dungeyish rider.
I could watch him ride all day but he sure makes races boring. If he would at least have bad starts...

I'm just looking forward to them racing each other next year, I hope that the mxgp heavy hitters all turn up healthy. Both classes look really good for 2020.

yeah exactly you can see Cairoli has a positive influence on him , he rides like Tony and even has same holeshot talent
Prado is smart ,and total opposite of Herlings in MX2 , Prado knows how to control the race and wins with a marging thats enough for a simple faillure or small crash if that might happen .. His many holeshots are a great help in this
its hard to compare the two , different classes and even their MX2 days ..different riders and time will only tell who had the better competition in MX2 .. it will be very interesting to see Prado in MXGP next year , dont think he will be a instant title contender and time will tell how he adjusts to 450 bike... still think Herlings and a fit Cairoli will be to fast for him , but in his second year things could be interesting . Would be great to see him battle with Herlings , as when Cairoli retires some one has to step up and Prado is most fitted to do so in my opinion ... he could be the record breaker Herlings wished he was Wink im glad he stays in MXGP and with Cairoli he has an excellent mentor ...

I think in the end, Prado will end up the more successful of the two. In terms of raw speed he is a tic off yet but his dominance is every bit as impressive as Herlings. He seems a little more mature at his age than Herlings and a little more humble perhaps and maybe this is in part why is avoiding injury to this point in his career.

Prado is better at riding within his limits. He may not ever have more raw speed than Herlings in sand, but I can see him beating Herlings on the other stuff after a year or two in the 450 class. I think ultimately he will have a more successful career with more titles.

Dont make this into Tomac VS Herlings..

I am sure we all can agree when Tomac is on it, and herlings is having an off day.. its Tomacs to loose.
I am also sure we can all agree that when Herlings is on it and Tomac is having one of his off days, Herlings will take it..

What would be cool, both to us as fans and the riders as well, would be to match them both when they are on it.. on a track that favors both.. and that has never happened, and most likely never will....

Well they’ve only ever raced each other on US soil, so I think it’s fair to say that the conditions should have favoured Tomac on most of those occasions

Hmm
Which stat proves that Herlings is better than Prado?
Or which proves the contrary?

Might have missed something

Where was Herlings when Tomac raced in Germany and Latvia?

Herlings definitly had it a bit more difficult back in 2010.

6 Years Between them ... almost as daft comparing Prado to Liam Everts.

We will find out next year.

We might find out that neither is as good as Cairoli again.

And that is why we race.

Safe to say that if Prado was in the US, he might have pipped Swoll for the Horizon award.. They are the same age.

Injured. He almost beat RV on a 350 at St Jean aged 16.

Related to what many have said staying healthy is a big part of being better. I think sometimes Herlings confidence can overtakes his common sense. Winning by 10-15 seconds is good enough.

Did anyone see this weekends photo of Prado casually adjusting his helmet in the first corner? I get the sense racing dirt bikes is a lot easier for him than everyone else.

Yeah but Herlings record against Kenny was not good, if it wasn’t sand something had to happen to Kenny for Herlings to beat him. So the point of this picture proves nothing. Prado has weak competition now and when Herlings really started to re write the record book was after Tommy’s departure kind of like Prado killing it now without Jonass. Both are once in a generation talents expect for Roczen/Herlings are nearly the same age which is insane to think about. But right now Prado has no peers In Europe just like Herlings when Roczen left. Herlings is far more spectacular and Prado far more efficient.
