This is from 2017, so maybe stale news by now. It would be cool to hear from Wageman and what that was all about, especially since it's apparently not happening.

It was a one of deals for the 2 stroke nationals last year. Rj is a test rider for Suzuki. I’ve been blessed enough to know the family for years and even worked for his dads shop for 4 years. Watch out for him this weekend at the 2 stroke invitational at Glen Helen.

I know a lot of people who were really hoping this bike was going to lead to something, and I was one of them. But it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen

If Japanese manufacturers get back into developing two strokes I honestly see Suzuki as the last to get into it. They make great bikes but not a very proactive company

Out of interest, who do you think would be the first to re-tool them? I'd say Honda is top of the "not gonna" list rather than Suzuki.

I think Yamaha would be the obvious answer, then Honda. Maybe then Acura, Nissan and then Kawi and Suzuki

Really? I could see Suzuki being the first, they still produce rm85s, kawi doesn’t need a big seller like two stroke because their 250fs are successful. Honda’s out the question completely to me, I just don’t see them getting back into two strokes at all.

The last RM 250 was by all accounts a great bike. What would be the advantage of an af conversion other than looking more modern?

I'd prefer they stick to steel frame. Take the last 125s and 250s, update suspension, brakes, maybe develop an engine if there's any big gains to be had. Really just refinements and modern components. They were very good bikes.

I don’t see Suzuki putting that much money into the sport. They always have very few riders, they take 5 - 10 years between major updates on their bikes (450, 250, GSXR1000, GSXR600) so I don’t expect them to randomly put money into two strokes. I love all the bikes I mentioned btw, Suzuki just really rides the “Don’t fix what isn’t broken” strategy on them.

I think the best fix for the old RMs would for sure be transmission. Those bikes are awesome though, their power delivery hits so hard it feels the throttle is a light switch imo. If I wasn’t for the transmission being garbage I’d probably pick up a RM125 off Craigslist

Yeah, unfortunately it's old news that bike isn't actually going into production... but imagine if Suzuki did decide to bring back the RM250 and RM125. Even if they were exactly the same as the last models in production, if they sold it for the right price (MSRP reasonably less than the YZ), I really think that could be a good move for them. That's just my worthless opinion, but what's keeping them from doing that? How many of you would buy a steel frame RM if it was brought back into production as is? I'd consider it.

Apart from the bikes just look old and the shrouds don't cover the entire tank. They were really great bikes tho, loved my '04 RM125.

No manufacturers want to produce a 2 stroke when they can sell fat pig, over priced 4 strokes with 2x the engine parts to replace

They could easily modernize the look in the same manner the KTM does with steel frame in the center and shrouds that cover the tank, or simply revise the shape of the shrouds. The tank is actually a good design that keeps the weight low. I agree with the transmission comment earlier, although I never had an issue on my 125/144.

I would hope suzuki took the time of 'restructuring' to capitalize on a re-intro in the amateur and two stroke motocross game. Yamaha stepped up with a new 65, and i believe it's mostly ktm/yama/kawi in the super built mini's category.

i'd set the tooling to focus on cranking out amateur bikes that are cost effective. maybe factory mount kits that allow motor swaps from 125-250f or bigger depending on the class structuring of the future.

pretty soon, smart company like alta will create great hybrid bikes that can be set by the turn of a dial and boom, you're riding 3+ classes for just one bike.

I wish this would become a reality. I am in the process of building a track at home. Worried my RM250 won't last the test of time. I would buy a new improved one without hesitation and sell the old one.

Motocross riders trip so hard on motorcycle politics. gossip for days about what new bikes are coming out and reading biased assed reviews and repeating ad nauseam. The reason why Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki dont make two strokes is so simple. They stopped selling. You couldnt give away a new RM250 or KX250 in 2010 for anything. I remember dealer had a new 08 kx250 for $4299, and people saying it was way too much. It didnt sell for a long time.

I’m a kawi guy and my modern bike is a KTM. I’d still buy a new Kawasaki 125 or 250 if they made one.

At least you spend $$ ,instead of saying. If, if, if. . plenty of new 2 stroke options out there if people want them. Suzuki doesnt care someone buys a smoker off craigslist. If there was $$ to be made, they would build them.
