My 2000 KX250 was awesome for me for every reason that MXA said it sucked. Huge midrange and big torque, big wide and stable, they said it didn’t turn very well but after some suspension work I loved it.... come to think of it my 16 KX450 feels very similar!

1998 KX250-best box-stock bike I’ve ridden to this day. I was waiting for my YZ250 to come in, and ride my buddies 98 KX the first day he had it. Cancelled my YZ and got the KX.

2002 CRF450-despite everything MXA said, I loved that bike.

2007 CRF450-after getting the suspension really well set-up, I felt almost invincible on that bike.

2018 KX450-felt immediately comfortable. Other than the SFF-TAC forks. If we made inmates ride with those, crime would be eliminated in a year or less...fixing those this year.

1977 XR 75 - best $75 ever spent

1985 CR 80 - rode the wheels off it

1986 CR 125 - Pro circuit modded Vrp swingman and subframe -wish i wouldn't have sold it now.

2002 YZ 125 - that bike was a blast tons of fun

2004 KX 125 - awesome handling great engine

2006 YZ 125 / 144 - owned since new and i love it still riding today.

2006 YZ 250 - love this bike got it 12 years ago made me go from a 125 only to 250 rider.

1980 RM400. Not because the bike was so awesome (it wasn't, I just thought so at the time), but because of the memories I have of riding it. With my dad, with my friends, by myself. Just a flood of good memories.

2003 CR250. While it was a really good bike, the memories made while riding it with my son in particular just make me smile. For me at least, the good feelings I get while on a dirt bike are the reason I can't/won't give it up.

79 RM 125 Even though it had funky plastics and it seemed the frame needed to be welded every week l just loved that bike.

84 CR 250 First new bike l bought on my own. That bike felt like an extension of my body.

06 CRF 450 Only four stroke l've ever owned and l still have it. Don't ride it much but so many good memories l just can't break up yet.

06 YZ 250 The bike l'm currently riding and loving. Bought it after selling my 05 YZ in order to buy the CRF. After a few years of wishing l had never sold the 05 l had to have another.

1981 KX80, the first Uni-trak model. Started racing on a twin-shock 1979 model and this felt like a whole new level.

1983 KX80, the first water cooled KX. Absolute rocketship but didn't have it long as my mini racing days were finished when Mum finally put her foot down when she found out how much it cost my Dad...

1989 KX125 - not the quickest but bulletproof enough to stand up to 2 years in the hands of a penniless teenager with nothing to spend on maintenance.

1991, '98 and '06 YZ250 - smooth, fast, fun and reliable. The '98 was my first ever brand new bike and I stripped it down to the frame before riding it just for the sheer novelty of knowing I wouldn't find any of those "oh shit..." things that always appear when you get a used bike home.

1988 KX500 - best engine ever

2012 KTM 300 XC - a bike that would do everything I threw at it. MX one week, a Welsh enduro the next.

Not sure these first two bikes even count... but they were fun with gas and go indestructible motors.
1968 Honda trail 50
1971 Honda trail 70 w/clutch and 4 speed
1974 Yamaha 125 MX... strong 3rd gear that would pull on a CR 125
1977 Yamaha125 YZ.. broke it in at Saddleback and was a serious upgrade over any previous bike. Welcome to the monoshock world. What an improvement over twin shocks!
1979 Yamaha 125 YZ
1981 Yamaha 125 YZ... welcome to the watercooled 2 stroke age!
1987 Honda CR 500.. my first time on a big bore and I looped it within the first ten minutes.

All were great bikes to own with no buyers remorse except the occasional sudden wide open throttle syndrome the 74 MX displayed. That wasn't cool Yamaha! I still loved it though. Total cowtrail machine.

Funny, I liked mine a lot and had the suspension done by Enzo as well but no motor work. With that said, I didn't have the greatest luck on that bike. Had a lot of weird crashes on it. Crashes I hadn't had before that bike and crashes I haven't had since. Weird stuff!

02 xr650r and 09 yz250f.
The yamaha was the best most comfortable bike Ive had. I could have been tainted as it had the most money in suspension than any other bike ive had but damn i just felt i could do anything on that bike.

My 81 YZ465, my 1990 CR500 and my 2003 YZ450 were all great bikes. My very favorite was my 2003 YZ450. It had that sweet motor that rocked on the sand tracks of Michigan and Dave Bowman at Tech Care had my suspension really dialed. I rode all three of those bikes in the northwoods trails and on the "hard water" in the winter. The CR500 was a helluva ice bike!

My son's favorite bike was hands down his 2017 KTM 125SX, completely stock, was reliable, very light, good handling and very fast. The best riding he ever did and because of the bike he had all kinds of confidence on it. Second favorite was his YZ125 (139 kit) that was fast but not like the KTM but a close second.

My 1989 RM 250 was my favorite race bike. It wasn't the fastest in it's class, and the early USD forks were not good, but man that bike could sure turn! It's like that bike could read your mind and just go where you wanted it to go. It also felt like riding a big 125, so just coming off of 125's into the 250 class made for a easy transition.

1st post & the topic is this ... yippee

1974 ? Hodaka 125 combat wombat - best dirt bike name ever.
1976 125 Elsonore - A B&E shop built 125 that was Barnetts for a season.
1992 RM 125
1978 CZ Falta replica ; Aluminum coffin tank, Fox Air shocks, snail pipe, Swiss cheese everything - the only one I wished I'd kept.
1973 RT-3 360 - cuz it scared everyone that rode it.
Many, many others thru the decades.
And a current 2017 KTM 250 2T that practically rides itself.

It's impossible to have a full measure of just how good modern bikes are unless one lived thru ( survived ? ) the machines of the previous era's

1975 380 Falta CZ - started my desire to spend all my time and money on Moto Cross.
2000 Husaberg FC 600 - more power than everybody else on track and lots of fun keeping the front wheel down.
2016/17/18 SXF 450 - got a lot quicker with these bikes
1983 Yamaha EML 975 - wish I had that bike when I was racing in the 80s.
There were a lot more bikes in between - all good but not so special.
The only lemon was the 2005 YZ 450 - broke 6 ribs and a hand when that bike stalled mid-air and I went over the bars at touch-down.

04 YZ250F, had a 01 YZ426F before it and this thing was so much lighter and fun to ride.

Last year I sold my 12 KX450F and bought a 18 YZ250F and the same thing. The KX was a great bike but it is like history repeating again.

2017 CRF450r. Very very easy to find a good setup that you can just go out and ride on and don't have to mess with, even with stock suspension valving (rode it for 30 hours on bone stock suspension). Absolutely love the shock and 49mm Showa spring forks. This generation CRF450r is much easier to live with than the 09-16's were. One thing that is a bit tricky is sag and balance with the forks in the clamps. I run my forks 2.5mm down from the cap line and 108 sag and my bike never does anything weird on me. I was surprised to see how many people in the other thread on buyers remorse don't like the 17-19 CRF450's. Everyone who I let ride my bike wants to take it home with them.
