I can think of a half dozen races where I saw riders rolling triple jumps and finish line jumps with yellow flags waiving due to a rider being down.

They change the rule??

Yellow flag in SX just means there is something ahead that needs your attention.
If you saw a yellow and riders rolling jumps there was also a Red Cross flag being displayed.

I saw that, but how does hitting a triple and proceed with extreme caution go hand in hand?

Essentially a yellow flag means nothing? lol

I’m sure the AMA and FIM are all over it dude. If you’re lucky they just might take Kenny’s win away 😱

If it was me (and it wouldn't be), I'd be happy to keep it between the Tuf-Blox (and I probably wouldn't). For Ken and most of the other riders? Do you want him a 16 inches from the edge of the track? Or closer? He'd probably put it there.

In local racing here a yellow always meant slow down, no passing, wheels on the ground.

I always thought in supercross it looked weird seeing guys tripling past flaggers but its just the way it is i guess.

Because there is another flag to alert the rider if something worse is up ahead and rolling the section is necessary. It's just a caution flag so they can look further ahead and figure out where to track. That's why there's often multiple yellow flags leading up to the downed rider or whatever so they have time to figure out where exactly the caution is and to put themselves in the right spot coming up to it.

There needs to be different tiers of flag for the severity of the caution.

No flag: do whatever
Yellow flag: caution ahead, be aware
Red cross/medical: slow, no passing
Red: stop

Kenny was so far out in front he could have pulled over, asked the flagger where the rider was, helped the other rider up, drank a beer and gotten back on his bike without losing a position

After investigating more, the FIM would have docked him
a penalty. In MXGP you can’t jump or pass on yellow. We in the US are the only ones that allow it.

Should of been a Red Cross flag out.. that was a sketchy section and everyone was launching/racing through it whilst medical personnel were attending to rider in corner.
Usually they are overly cautious with throwing up a Red Cross flag..
Oh well

Agree on this point. Going by the rules, Kenny and everyone else did nothing wrong but when I was watching the race I thought that was supet sketchy havin guys triple on to that table with the downed rider right after it. People were ready to lynch the Alpinestars Medical crew the other week after Brians unfortunate accident (whilst knowing none of the circumstances) but if something had've happened here there would be no excuse. Guys helping the downed rider were so close to the action I'm very surprised the red cross flag wasn't out. Glad to see nothing came of it, just hope a bit more caution is excercised in future.

It's different in MXGP. If you do that in MXGP or FIM race, you will be penalised. If a yellow flag is waved, then you are not allowed to pass nor jump two/triple/quad... a jump or if it is a single, you are not allowed to pin it. If a yellow flag is still, then you proceed witha a caution, but are allowed to quad, etc...

Double waved yellows prior to the incident would be used in car racing if the track was partially blocked. No overtaking and exercise caution. MX/SX could use this as one step below the red flag.

I can't remember the rider, but I remember that incident happening. I honestly thought they were going to throw the red (or the red cross at the very least) because the rider was down (for a while) at the end of that rhythm section right at the entrance of that right-hander. It was in a pretty sketchy spot. I leaned over to my friend and said, "Tomac just got a gift, they are going to red flag this one". But neither reds came out, only the yellow.

And no, Kenny didn't do anything wrong. It seemed like at any given time throughout the night, a yellow was waving...whether a rider was down, or not. If they went wheels-down everytime a yellow came out, it would have been like watching a BMX race.

After investigating, the race was a SX in Atlanta, Ga. (which is in the U.S.) so it's allowed.

I used to think the same thing, i could have sworn when i was watching as a kid (in the 90's) yellow flag meant no passing, no jumping. Did this used to be a rule until the red cross flag came about, or am I also crazy?

Pretty sure it means ride with caution. I never not hit a jump at a track when the yellow flag is out

I think the rule is fine. It's helpful if the person flagging directs you to the side away from the downed rider. First guy shows the flag early in the section, second flagger points away from the wreck as you approach.

I've been to several riders meetings for the futures race. They clearly state take caution for yellow flags but passing and jumping are allowed. Red cross flag means wheels on the ground

Proceed with extreme caution in passing? That makes sense.
