Supercross started as a 3 moto format. Within a couple of years it went to a Main Event format. I applaud AMA for switching it up to allowing a few 3 moto races a during the season. I have talked to a few riders about it and none of them or the teams like it.
Both have advantages and disadvantages. It's definitely exciting for the fans to see 3 starts and those crazy first few laps. Kinda anticlimactic when a rider comes across the finish line for 3rd and is the winner.

Poll
I am not a 4t hater nor 2t hater. I’ve owed both of them. Everyone is tenths off of each other, and it’s turned supercross into nascar with jumps. I don’t know what the answer is, but I really miss 2 stroke racing in supercross.

I also dig the longer mains. Having a guy come from 12th and making a run at a podium or better is extremely entertaining.
Don't see that in a TC event, starts are much more critical... Had CW picked to do much better as I expected him to start near the front a bit more than he has this year. His strengths last year? Not so much this year.
Three races = three times the starts, excitement, finishes
One main, gives you one start, some excitement for half of the race, then usually a boring settle in, follow the leader and ride it out to the finish.
LCQ's are similar to the shorten three race format.
i belive that the fim and ama 450 motocrosser is a bike that as out grown the stadiums of ama sx, too much for such a small venue, remember that its the same bike that wins dakar, baja1000, etc, its just tuned diferent.......
for me ama should put 250s in sx and 450s in motocross, 250 mod for the pros and 250 stock for the youth......it whould open a hole lot os possibilities in track design, the return of dual lines, of dual jump sequences and all the fun stuff from 2ts era,
its just my idea.......surprises me to not hear or read nothing on this subject, remenber the 500s going away from pro racing because it was too much and you could be faster on a 250 on a proper motocross track ????
Lots of good comments in the thread too, I liked the semi's too, I would not be against to see a few rounds with semi's. Having a triple crown in 450 and a normal main in 250 is not crazy at all too for some events. Bringing new things each week may help to feed some down tv time as well as keeping the viewers on the edge during a whole season, although as it is i am already super stoked between the traditional mains, triple crowns, east, west and shout outs, but after 17 rounds i am also really stoked to see the MX season ! As there were lots of proposals, why not a joker lane for 3 rounds ?
Bye the way, Saturday night's race was 3 X 12 min + 1 lap that provided over 40 minutes of racing (450 "Mains")

I just prefer to watch points paying races. The Nationals and GPs each give us hours of meaningful races compared to supercross.
That’s funny!
“Triple Crown is fucking without foreplay. Fun from time to time but not nearly as rewarding over the long haul.
When you realize that 2.5hrs of foreplay includes dinner, drinks, and hitting up her favorite bar for a nightcap before getting home you'll understand the value of foreplay.”
