If you can torque your sprocket bolts, you can fix a brushless motor.

Yup. There may be similar number of parts in the entire functional drivetrain to currently what is in just the clutch mechanism.

Im curious about how? I dont really know much about them.

much ty. How to spot a paid forum poster/artificial forum traffic producer (see list of actions/phrases below):

Copius pattern amounts of phrases like “Anyone have”..., “Anybody know?”.... and their variations.

Thoughts?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

OK. So, they really are like RC brushless. Man, single moms could do that!

Yeah. We are already using it all the time-- not just RC cars (and hoverboards), in terns of digitally controlled brushlles: cordless drills, angle grinders, hair dryers, fuck -- whatever. We all probably use it daily.

It isn't sci-fi shit, nor is it complex. It is very simple stuff mechanically, with a bit of digital logic overhead, like almost everything motorized currently in production.

About 50 lbs too heavy, have no range and are waaaay to pricey. Yes electric is the future but it will be awhile (unless there is something out there lurking).

50 lbs? An Alta is 250 lbs stock with comparable (and infintelty more tunable) power characteristics to a 250F. Seems to me they are, in their infantile stage at most, 25 lbs too heavy. Which is significant, but definitely addressable.

Range is already similar or better than any stock MX bike.

Comparing to thumpers which are heavy pigs compared to, say, an Sx250.

Yup, electrical motors are extremely simple. Really the only replaceable parts would be the bearings.
Speed controllers are also pretty simple from a hardware perspective, it's the software that's complex.

The weight and intial costs are the only issues right now. But long terms costs are very low, and the weight isn't that bad. It'll get better as Alta progresses. The very first 2 stroke wasn't light by today's standards. Hell who would've thought a 450 could get under 220 lbs back when the YZ426 came out?

Why would you compare them to an SX250? Yes, they may be heavy compared to those. They also may be heavy compared to an rm125. or a sx50. But The torque numbers are not comparable to any of those models.

They do not need to be comparative in weight to a Sx250. Alta is not attempting that. They are attempting to compete with 250Fs, which weigh between 230 and 245 ready to ride.

Next gen battery, or should I say capacitor technology, will bring the weight down and the range way up. Graphene based capacitors would seem to have the lead from a materials science perspective, but who knows. Regardless, this tech is now on the steep part of the development curve.

And by the way, I did stay at Holiday Inn last night.

They are saying about $7000usd. How ever, they are easily rebuilt. They're saying they could attract a $3000 resale as it costs not much to rebuild, but it's just specialist equipment to do so.
The battery will last about 500 hours. I think there is probably 4K worth on rebuilds in 500 hours on an ICE bike. That's if you even bother trying to fix it after 300 hours as everything in the engine bike will be shot

JA just nailed it out of the park with this. To me...that bike looks dorky and dated.

On the " It'll be cheaper in the long run " bullshit....exactly that...Bullshit.

What's that battery cost? What's that motor cost? The price difference is like $6000.00 - $7000.00 compared to a new 450 isn't it? That kind of money...you could get 25 years out of a 450.

About 3 years out of a 250F....but still , $15,000?

We ain't ready for this yet.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Getting the weight down on these electric bikes will be far easier than a traditional ICE bike, because quite simply battery technology is evolving at an extremely fast rate. Smaller, lighter, longer lasting, and faster charging batteries are coming out every year. Shaving weight should be very simple. I would also think that there is an alternative simple solution to shaving weight. Using Hydrogen as a fuel source to recharge the battery, and using a smaller battery. Refilling the hydrogen would be the equivalent of refueling from a propane tank - speed, ease of use, etc. The hydrogen combines with oxygen via a special membrane to create water - reverse hydrolysis, thus energy is created in the process. The process charges the battery, thus a smaller lighter battery could be used. The membrane would be relatively small and simple to maintain. And the best part is, the bike produces small drops of water, so the bikes could water the track as they are ridden to keep dust under control

anyway, back on point - shaving weight isn't going to be difficult IMO. I could see these bikes having equal or greater torque along with lighter weight in less than 3 years compared to current MX bikes. This stuff is evolving a lot faster than anyone could ever imagine.

Real question is - which major mfr steps up first and buys Alta?

So what kind of mods are going to be available for these?? What will FMF, Yosh and all the other engine part companies do?? Will this even out the field when it comes to factory vs privateer bikes? Will they have an electronic start or kickstart ?? Haha joking on the last one but curious about the rest

Maybe I am just old school but this bike couldnt interest me less. Sure its the "future" but I live in the now where people can barely afford a 7 or $8,000 bike let alone 10-15.

Can we really respect a rider that does well one one of these?

Give it a license plate and road tires... then maybe.

If I could justify the cash, I'd get 4 of them right now to ride on property that I currently don't because of neighbors. I'd think that it'd be fairly easy to "throttle down" for beginner riders and they'd be perfect for when the kids bring friends over. If they were 7-8K they'd sell like crazy.

Alta may become the Tesla of motorcycles, as long as Tesla doesn't realize people ride motorcycles...........

I admit it. I'm not ready for this. I don't like it, and I don't want it.

Of course, I've never seen a 40 bike gate full of these things doing a 30 minute moto. Maybe once I see that it will grow on me, but I just...I don't like it. I'm old school too like nascarnate said above. I want to hear the bikes and smell the fumes.

However, I'm just new-school enough to say that it could, possibly, maybe - grow on me. I don't count on it though.
