Following his recent severe bout of Malaria, 10 time World MX champion Stefan Everts was re-admitted to a specialist hospital in Leuven and to try and stop the infection sadly had one of his toes amputated.
Best wishes to Stefan, hopefully this catches the infection, for a full recovery.

My first thought was leg or arm or major appendage. It is a bit overly dramatic.

He mentioned this was a possibility in his recent interview.
Hope he's doing ok.

If it was his left pinky toe he'll never ride again. So sad.

Jesus Rob! First thing I thought when I read the thread title was " He got an arm or leg amputated ". Just a toe? That's not even considered a flesh wound to a guy like that!

Yes, he said in the big interview he gave that, probably, he would lose a toe or two.

I truly hope it stops at that.

Rob, as others have said, change the title. It's much like the sort of 'headline' that those pathetic Brit Tabloid Scandal Rags indulge in.

To be fair, there's more talent in that pinky toe than in all of my major appendages combined so still a pretty big deal.

Malaria is a disease caused by a plasmodium parasite, transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Nasty...real nasty...especially for you all that were not born in Africa.

Then you have the Dengue fever, also a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. This may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash.

Take precautions should you visit African countries. There are a whole bunch of nasty things that can get you. Consult with travel Doctors specializing in Africa before planning a trip.

Certain countries (North sub-Saharan) are worse than others so make sure you educate yourself before travel.

Lastly, the above is irrelevant if you travel to the wrong areas/countries and have your head removed with a machete. Whistling

The good news is that he only uses that foot every other step, so it's only half the big deal we think it is.
