....but being bikeless is not worth the hundreds or even thousand or so dollars to me. Even if its just for a couple weeks, Riding season is too short. No fn way.
I was doing our monthly financial update this evening and the wife and I have way more cash piled up than we did back in February. Much of it because we haven't gone out and spent money on 'normal bullshit' and tightened up our belts when the lock down hit.
I personally am hoping many of these 'new buyers' fall in love with the outdoors, with motorcycles, with adventure, and we finally see some positive growth in the industry... which has never ever really recovered from the initial 2008 dive.
The Shop
Are used bike prices still out of control? I mean, I see some listed in So Cal that are just absurd. Like a 2006 CRF450R for $4K?! Are they really getting that kind of price? Cuz if so, I'm going to sell some bikes!! (also might be out of work soon so gotta plan ahead. )
People are fuckin morons 😆
I’m stowing away cash to put another 2 stroke in the stable myself.
I sold my19 KX 450 in a few days for $6200. Granted it had low hours and was mint. If I wanted to hold out I probably could have got a couple hundred more.
My brother is a Kaw/Polaris/SSR/TM dealer.
Other than TM, which is a niche bike, he can't get near enough units.
He has KX's sold if he could get them. So far he's only got 2 KX 450's, 1 KX 250 and 1 KX 450x. All sold quickly. I bought the the KX 250 and my buddy bought 1 of the 450's. He's selling SSR's as fast as he can get them. But he can't get enough of those either. The upside is people are getting back into dirtbikes.
SxS's are selling at a record pace as well.
Gf owns a stable. She has 50 horses, including about 10 retirees, and we board 24.
We average 20 lessons a day and have to rotate horses so they don't get worn out. 80% of our stock is leased, and we have a waiting list of 40 people to start new clients.
Last year we could buy well seasoned broke horses 8-15 years old for $1000 - $1500.
Now they have almost tripled.
So many people cut back during the last recession because of the expense of owning a horse, and a lot of breeders stopped because they couldn't sell anything but high end stock that there is a real shortage, and if everybody started breeding stuff now it would take 5 years to get the experienced horses we need.
And I don't think it's people who don't have a job. I don't think many people went out, bought bikes and went racing/riding without a paycheck. I think it's more about people that are working looking for things to do outdoors.
Pit Row
Will get back into the sport when prices are more affordable.
I was thinking the other day I wish I still had the stock parts to my 2011 YZ I’d sell it now for good money and pick up a newer one when prices drop again.

If/when the suppliers catch up to production demand, firing up the line for a backlog is not going to happen without sacrificing other units production. 2021 production can not meet normal demand little lone the increased demand. That means prices stay high and or zero/short availability.
The only way it ends if if demand falls off a cliff. It will likely take a couple years for the stock supply to come back if that does not happen.
What that tells me is if you want a bike and are waiting for a price collapse you are going to be waiting a long time.
Post a reply to: Surge in bike sales = Low hour deals next year?
