Surge in bike sales = Low hour deals next year?

Anyone interested in a 06 yz250? And yz125/144? I'm getting new bikes in pacnw I've owned them since new definitely not roaches. I was thinking 2800 obo for my 250 and 3k for the 144 since it's a little nicer and wasn't ridden as much.

See I seriously considered doing this with my '20 CRF. I know I could get nearly what I paid then buy a '21 when they hit the showroom floors.

....but being bikeless is not worth the hundreds or even thousand or so dollars to me. Even if its just for a couple weeks, Riding season is too short. No fn way.

Just scooped up a new KX450 for what I would consider very reasonable. Go get one!

Stimulus money at work. The deals will come later.
Or, lots of people that normally spend money on going out to eat, going to the movies, going to Disneyland, going to the bar, etc haven't been able to do that... so have money stockpiled up... and are buying toys they CAN use (outside activities).

I was doing our monthly financial update this evening and the wife and I have way more cash piled up than we did back in February. Much of it because we haven't gone out and spent money on 'normal bullshit' and tightened up our belts when the lock down hit.

I personally am hoping many of these 'new buyers' fall in love with the outdoors, with motorcycles, with adventure, and we finally see some positive growth in the industry... which has never ever really recovered from the initial 2008 dive.

Just wait until the unemployment plus the extra $600 runs out... the bikes will flood craigslist again.

Agree with this, we bought a 27’ Travel Trailer 2 months ago and with working remotely we’ve already gone on 6 trips. Hopefully we continue to use it a bunch but if not we’ll sell it in a few years and take a loss for the same amount we probably would spent on vacations.

Bumping this thread. . . .

Are used bike prices still out of control? I mean, I see some listed in So Cal that are just absurd. Like a 2006 CRF450R for $4K?! Are they really getting that kind of price? Cuz if so, I'm going to sell some bikes!! (also might be out of work soon so gotta plan ahead. Sad )

People may be asking, but I do not think people are getting in my neck of the woods. Im seeing prices coming back down and a lot of the people asking top dollar have not been selling. Seeing reasonably priced bikes on the market for over a month

I'm currently looking for a 4 seater UTV. I've been looking into the Can Am Commanders. They're about $14,500 MSRP brand new. This local dude has a 2018 used with 300 miles and put doors and a roof on. Other than that its totally stock. Hes asking $18,500 for it.

People are fuckin morons 😆

I think it’s gonna be another couple months before the really good deals start hitting the market.

I’m stowing away cash to put another 2 stroke in the stable myself.

From what I see here, well taken care of mx bikes are selling fast and getting top dollar. Part of the reason is the lack of new bikes available.
I sold my19 KX 450 in a few days for $6200. Granted it had low hours and was mint. If I wanted to hold out I probably could have got a couple hundred more.

My brother is a Kaw/Polaris/SSR/TM dealer.

Other than TM, which is a niche bike, he can't get near enough units.

He has KX's sold if he could get them. So far he's only got 2 KX 450's, 1 KX 250 and 1 KX 450x. All sold quickly. I bought the the KX 250 and my buddy bought 1 of the 450's. He's selling SSR's as fast as he can get them. But he can't get enough of those either. The upside is people are getting back into dirtbikes.

SxS's are selling at a record pace as well.

It is the same way with just about anything related to outdoor recreation. It is certainly the same way with horses.

Gf owns a stable. She has 50 horses, including about 10 retirees, and we board 24.

We average 20 lessons a day and have to rotate horses so they don't get worn out. 80% of our stock is leased, and we have a waiting list of 40 people to start new clients.

Last year we could buy well seasoned broke horses 8-15 years old for $1000 - $1500.

Now they have almost tripled.

So many people cut back during the last recession because of the expense of owning a horse, and a lot of breeders stopped because they couldn't sell anything but high end stock that there is a real shortage, and if everybody started breeding stuff now it would take 5 years to get the experienced horses we need.

That may happen to some extent. Buy I'm hoping all these people ridng dirtbikes again, especially kids continue to enjoy it and stay with it.

And I don't think it's people who don't have a job. I don't think many people went out, bought bikes and went racing/riding without a paycheck. I think it's more about people that are working looking for things to do outdoors.

Keeping with the theme, what's everyone thoughts/predictions on the availability of new bikes in 2021? Obviously, the cupboard is bare currently as result of the halt in production due to COVID, but is there a strong recovery on the horizon? Manufacturers are surely not blind to the spike in sales and I would think they would be focusing their efforts on capitalizing on this market. As noted in this thread and numerous others, showrooms are empty and new units are sporadically trickling in if it all. Long waiting lists, prices at full MSRP or even higher in some cases…will supply even begin to approach demand in 2021?

Literally almost started a thread about this the other day. I’ve been looking for a 110 and people are selling 10 year old completely stock klx’s/crf’s for around $2500. Newer ones I’ve seen listed for over 3k...it’s nauseating
10/31/2020 5:10pm Edited Date/Time 10/31/2020 5:11pm
I just sold my 18 YZ450F for 7k, 7x14 enclosed trailer for 10k and 01 (yes, 2001, as in Grant Langston arrives in the US) 125SX for 3k. All within 1 week of placing the ads.

Will get back into the sport when prices are more affordable.

Everybody wants to come up. They brag about buying a bike from someone getting a divorce, or widow selling bike, or “they thought it was blown up and all it needed was a spark plug”. It thrills people to come up on others misfortune

If you have a “spare” bike right now is the time to sell it. Prices are ridiculous.
I was thinking the other day I wish I still had the stock parts to my 2011 YZ I’d sell it now for good money and pick up a newer one when prices drop again.

I've been in the market for a new bike. People are literally asking more for a used bike than what they cost brand new. Its absolutely insane. I'll wait til the manufacturers get restocked. Or wait til this passes and people start selling their once ridden bikes at reasonable prices meet year.
Thats funny, I have a wild hair for a 2020 350. Nobody has any in stock damn near anywhere. Theres a used 2020 about an hour away with 24 hours. I was quoted $10,800 out the door. Crazy. Think I’ll wait for the collapse.

Those predicting the collapse of the market months ago where wrong. This will not end anytime soon. Folks do not understand how production works. You really never make up for lost units because the next models need to start rolling.

If/when the suppliers catch up to production demand, firing up the line for a backlog is not going to happen without sacrificing other units production. 2021 production can not meet normal demand little lone the increased demand. That means prices stay high and or zero/short availability.

The only way it ends if if demand falls off a cliff. It will likely take a couple years for the stock supply to come back if that does not happen.

What that tells me is if you want a bike and are waiting for a price collapse you are going to be waiting a long time.
