I mean.. it makes sense if Field was trying to get geico as a title sponsor and it took the funds from having a team. It's a business decision on Geico's standpoint. Honda will figure it out.

Looking at that screen shot drives me nuts...I don’t know how people can walk around with their battery that low!

No one in their right mind would do that..

Dude needs to start dropping names or STFU.
He did, if you know how to read it. You put 2 things together, its very clear who the names are.

I'm not quite sure why, if true, this should seem strange, let alone wrong. If Geico felt they could reach more potential customers by sponsoring a race SERIES than by sponsoring a race TEAM, who are we to get upset? They're still staying involved in the sport, after all, and it's not like Honda is too broke to step in and fund that team if they wanted to, right?

Every team and rider has a potential worth to a sponsor, and every team and rider bears the full and complete responsibility to provide that sponsor with a demonstrably good return on their investment, lest that sponsor consider other ways os spending their advertising dollars.

Motocross and Supercross are not charities, my friends. You gotta prove your worth.

Hahahah, for a long time I really tried to keep up with emails. Tried to make one more run at it a few months back and got it down from about 4000 to 3200. Won't enough rain in that day to keep the train moving. I give up.

I guess we will find out next year if Geico re-allocated its budget, but whoever that guy is he doesn't seem too credible with his 4th grade spelling and punctuation. For God's sake kids, pay attention in school.

...and even if they did, it's their business to spend where they see fit.

If I was Geico and I had to deal with that Grondahl wingnut I might have second thoughts too...

And its not like there isnt a history of this type of things happening.
But Phil, it didn't happen. GEICO advertises in motorsports magazines, on websites, sponsors all kinds of events. Now it appears they are taking an entirely different approach to motorsports and it's not just the team that is losing GEICO. What they paid in sponsorship/advertising fees to any series was minor compared to what they were giving the team. It sucks for everyone that they are leaving so many motorsports right now...

No, the point i was making was the fact that sponsors have gone from being introduced to the sports by teams, to not being involved with teams, and being involved with the series.

I agree it sucks, and the whole Geico thing is part of a bigger picture.

Wasn't there an email from Geico that specifically said they were leaving the team because the owner wanted to run Make Motocross Great Again, or something like that?

First of all I’d like to apologize for this mess, this was a private conversation that was never meant to be shared. This was just something I said in a heated moment & I said it as if it were true... When in reality it was just a rumor I had heard & I was pretty upset it was over for such a great team of people and riders. I apologize to both parties for coming at them like that with no real facts. I let my immaturity get the best of me. Like I said it was a private conversation that i shared with a friend and he blasted it on social media..

To claim that someone "stole" sponsorship money from one company to give to another is not rational and lacks common sense (and any proof that it happened).

How about they just pump in all that Planet Fitness money where the Geico money used to be? Then he can put all the political slogans he wants all over those bikes...

Imagine a young person saying something to a friend in a private text that was a bit exaggerated or inaccurate. It's just crazy this happened!

My memory is fuzzy since I only read through that thread once but There was an email shared about them not wanting to be attached to any political agenda (for obvious reasons) but it had nothing to do them pulling out of the title sponsor role.

I think it was in reference to the Make Motocross Great Again petition. I’m forgetting some details and can’t be arsed to go back and dig it up. Grinning
